Historical Society chili dinner Nov. 10 at park
The Rockdale Historical Society’s annual chili dinner is set for Saturday, Nov. 10 at the New Salem Clubhouse in Fair Park.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out.
Desserts will be available and there will be a silent auction during the meal.
Troopers called out for South Milam accidents
State Trooper Michael McHale responded to one-vehicle accident on FM 487, southeast of County Road 407 at 4:22 p.m. Oct.
23.
He listed the driver as Alexander Amador, 20, of Temple and said no injuries were reported. Damages were termed minor.
Moderate damages were reported at 9:25 a.m. Friday on FM 908 near a private drive when a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Donald Easley of Somerville hit a hog, according to McHale.
Buddy Oney Run set
Dec. 1st at The Ranch
Bad to the Bone Riders Buddy Oney Toy Run is set for Dec. 1 at The Ranch.
Proceeds go to Milam County Child Protective Brown Santa, Thorndale Cares and Rockdale Christmas Roundup.
In its first 12 years, the run has raised just over $72,000 for the organizations.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with first bike out at
11. Fee is $20 for riders, and $25 with a passenger, or a new toy valued at $25. Fee does include food after ride for all participants.
Long sleeve T-shirts are pre-order only for $25, with an order deadline of Nov. 5, at (512)-698-2784.
Short sleeve ride shirts are $20 on ride day. Last bike in will be at 4:30 p.m,
A meal, provided by Brook-shire Brothers of Rockdale and prepared by Brady’s Pest Control and crew, will be served.

Thorndale city council names new police chief
THORNDALE—Meeting in special session Monday, the Thorndale City Council named Mark Birchard as new police chief.
Birchard has been serving as a Williamson County Chief Deputy Constable.
He replaced Martin L. Jackson who retired.
30-year prison term
handed down by judge
CAMERON—Jessie Lee Brooks Jr., 43, of Cameron was sentenced to a 30-year prison term for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by District Judge John Youngblood after a sentencing hearing last week.
On Aug. 10, after a three-day jury trial, a Milam County jury returned a guilty verdict after deliberating less than one hour.

Brown Santa signup

CAMERON—The Milam County Sheriff’s Department is now taking applications for children to be served by its annual Brown Santa program, which provides toys for needy children.
Nominations for service must be made at the sheriff’s office and must bring a Medicaid or WIC card with the child’s name, a current utility bill, birth certificate or children in school must present a report card/progress report.
Parent or guardian must have a valid Texas ID.

Applications to be served by Christmas Roundup, Rockdale’s annual Christmas cheer program for the less fortunate, are now available.
Application may be picked up at The Reporter, city library, One-Stop Center, Citizens National Bank, Classic Bank, Rock-dale Federal Credit Union, Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, Senior Citizens Center, Rockdale Christian Services Food Pantry and local churches.
Deadline to nominate is Dec. 7.
Internet safety topic for RISD program Nov. 13
The Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Rockdale ISD School Health Advisory Council will present an Internet/Social Media and Awareness program at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 in the elementary cafeteria.
“We encourage your attendance to learn about the many issues and dangers of inappropriate use of the Internet and social media,” Allen Sanders, RISD spokesman, said.

Jackpot bean cookoff
slated for Nov. 10th
A jackpot beans and chili cookoff will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Oak Club, 16149 N. FM 486, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
Kim Jeter, spokesperson, said entry fee is $20 for chili and $10 for beans.
Awards will go to the top three places for chili. A washer tourney will also be held.
Washer pitching—The twice-a-month ACS-benefit washer-pitching tournaments continue at 5:15 p.m. each second and fourth Sundays at the Apache Pass Ice House, with registration starting at 4:30 p.m. and prizes to the top three teams.
