Historical Society chili dinner ahead Saturday
The Rockdale Historical Society’s annual chili dinner is set for Saturday at the New Salem Clubhouse in Fair Park.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out.
Desserts will be available and there will be a silent auction during the meal.
Annual Thanksgiving
lunch returns Nov. 17th
Rockdale’s annual Thanksgiving outreach Luncheon returns for 2018 after taking a year off in 2017.
It’s Nov. 17, 11 to 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
The meal is free for all the community and persons in surrounding areas, according to Pam King, spokesperson. There’s free delivery to elderly and shut-ins.

Buddy Oney Run set
Dec. 1st at The Ranch
Bad to the Bone Riders Buddy Oney Toy Run is set for Dec. 1 at The Ranch.
Proceeds go to Milam County Child Protective Brown Santa, Thorndale Cares and Rockdale Christmas Roundup. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with first bike out at 11. Fee is $20 for riders, and $25 with a passenger, or a new toy valued at $25. Fee does include food after ride for all participants.
Long sleeve T-shirts are pre-order only for $25, with an order deadline of Nov. 5, at (512)-698-2784.
Short sleeve ride shirts are $20 on ride day. Last bike in will be at 4:30 p.m.
A meal, provided by Brook-shire Brothers of Rockdale and prepared by Brady’s Pest Control and crew, will be served.

Brown Santa signup
announced by sheriff
CAMERON—The Milam County Sheriff’s Department is now taking applications for children to be served by its annual Brown Santa program, which provides toys for needy children.
Nominations for service must be made at the sheriff’s office and must bring a Medicaid or WIC card with the child’s name, a current utility bill, birth certificate or children in school must present a report card/progress report.
Parent or guardian must have a valid Texas ID.
Roundup applications
available in Rockdale
Applications to be served by Christmas Roundup, Rockdale’s annual Christmas cheer program for the less fortunate, are now available.
Application may be picked up at The Reporter, city library, One-Stop Center, Citizens National Bank, Classic Bank, Rock-dale Federal Credit Union, Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, Senior Citizens Center, Rockdale Christian Services Food Pantry and local churches.
Deadline to nominate is Dec. 7.
Internet safety topic for RISD program Tuesday
The Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Rock-dale ISD School Health Advisory Council will present an Internet/Social Media and Awareness program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the elementary cafeteria.
“We encourage your attendance to learn about the many issues and dangers of inappropriate use of the Internet and social media,” Allen Sanders, RISD spokesman, said.

Jackpot bean cookoff slated for Saturday
A jackpot beans and chili cookoff will be held Saturday at the Oak Club, 16149 N. FM 486, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
Kim Jeter, spokesperson, said entry fee is $20 for chili and $10 for beans.
Awards will go to the top three places for chili. A washer tourney will also be held.
Tickets now on sale for ‘Rockdale Uncorked’
Tickets for the annual Rockdale Uncorked wine tasting event, set for 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Patterson Civic Center, are now on sale.
Advance tickets are $25 each and may be purchased online at www.rockdalechamber.com or at the Chamber’s rock house office.
Tickets at the door will be $30.
There will also be hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.
