‘Rockdale Uncorked’

ahead on Saturday

The annual Rockdale Uncorked wine tasting event is set for 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Patterson Civic Center. Tickets are now on sale.

Advance tickets are $25 each and may be purchased online at www.rockdalechamber.com or at the Chamber’s rock house office.

Tickets at the door will be $30.

There will also be hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.

Surplus food visit set

Thursday at KC Hall

Central Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry will have a distribution at 9 a.m. Thursday, at the KC Hall east of Rockdale.

Since the distribution relies totally on volunteer help, volunteers will be needed and greatly appreciated, according to Deanie Houser, spokesperson.

Contact Houser at 512-446-3336 for further information. Distributions are held the third Thursday of each month. Clients are asked to bring sacks, boxes or containers for groceries.

Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Buddy Oney Run set

Dec. 1st at The Ranch

Bad to the Bone Riders Buddy Oney Toy Run is set for Dec. 1 at The Ranch.

Proceeds go to Milam County Child Protective Services, Brown Santa, Thorndale Cares and Rock-dale Christmas Roundup.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with first bike out at

11. Fee is $20 for riders, and $25 with a passenger, or a new toy valued at $25. Fee does include food after ride for all participants.

Long sleeve T-shirts are pre-order only for $25, with an order deadline of Nov. 5, at (512)-698-2784.

Short sleeve ride shirts are $20 on ride day. Last bike in will be at 4:30 p.m.

A meal, provided by Brookshire Brothers of Rockdale and prepared by Brady’s Pest Control and crew, will be served.

Brown Santa signup

CAMERON—The Milam County Sheriff’s Department is now taking applications for children to be served by its annual Brown Santa program, which provides toys for needy children.

Nominations for service must be made at the sheriff’s office and must bring a Medicaid or WIC card with the child’s name, a current utility bill, birth certificate or children in school must present a report card/progress report.

Parent or guardian must have a valid Texas ID.

Phone scam making

CAMERON—Milam County residents are warned a phone scam has been reported in which a caller attempts to steal money from probationers.

Calls have “notified” those on probation they need to pay probation fees by PayPal, credit card or prepaid method over the phone.

The Milam County Probation Department issued a statement noting the activity is a scam and that it will never call to obtain payments over the phone.

Workforce Solutions Rockdale and Temple College office will host orientation trainings for those interested in getting certification as an administrative assistant or business management on Thursday.

Courses are 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m.

ahead for Thorndale

THORNDALE—The Thorndale Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Tree lighting is set for 6 p.m Sunday at the traditional lot on US 79.

Thorndale’s annual Christmas parade is set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.

Preservation grant

applications accepted

Applications are now being accepted for preservation grants in Milam County for 2019, according to Beth Brooks, spokesperson.

Applications for funding are available in Cameron at the Office of the County Judge and in Rockdale at Rainbow Courts.

Nativity displays slated at Rockdale LDS church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will hold its annual nativity display in November and December.

Over 100 nativity sets will be on display at 310 Calhoun Drive in Rockdale.

Days and times are: 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28; 3-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29; 5-8 p.m., Friday Nov. 30 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1.

Holiday viewing ahead for railroad museum

CAMERON—Holiday schedules have been announced for the Milam County Railroad Museum’s Old Town Cameron and Old-Town Rockdale miniature models.

Also, Milano Junction has been added as well as a working rail yard.

Winter hours will begin the week of November 25th. We will be open Tuesdays, Thursdays 10-4.

Saturdays we will be open 10-8 so visitors can enjoy the layout lighting at night as well as the Christmas decorations inside Cameron’s old JC Penney Building. Santa’s mailbox will be at the Railroad Museum. Children can come by the Railroad Museum and write their letters to Santa during visiting hours and place their letter in the Santa North Pole Express Mailbox.

Jamie Larson, spokesman, said model railroaders can bring in their HO gauge locomotives and run them on the Old Town Cameron layout.
