Andy Griffith program Thursday at city library

Jim Platt will present a program, “A Tribute to the Comedian Andy Griffith” at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library.

Platt is a former minister at Forest Grove Christian Church, who now resides in the Forest Grove Community south of Rockdale.

Griffith, of course, is known mostly for his iconic Andy Griffith Show, which ran from 1960 to 1969.

Platt said the program includes a brief presentation from memory of three tracks from the album “Andy Griffith: Just For Laughs.”

Surplus food visit set

Thursday at KC Hall

Central Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry will have a distribution at 9 a.m. Thursday, at the KC Hall east of Rockdale.

Since the distribution relies totally on volunteer help, volunteers will be needed and greatly appreciated, according to Deanie Houser, spokesperson.

Contact Houser at 512-446-3336 for further information. Distributions are held the third Thursday of each month. Clients are asked to bring sacks, boxes or containers for groceries.

Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult to participate.

Faust benefit Sunday

with BBQ, live auction

A benefit fund raiser for cancer patient Andy Faust is set for Sunday, Jan. 20, at The Ranch, 415 West US 79.

Proceeds will help defray medical costs.

Barbecue plates, priced at $10, will be sold from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A live auction will begin at 2 p.m. and auction items are being sought.

Milano VFD slates chili supper February 16th

MILANO—The Milano Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chili supper Saturday, Feb. 16, at the fire station.

Hours are 4:30 p.m. until sold out. Tickets are $8 for adults, $12 for children under 12, free for children under two.

Pre-trial hearing date

for Boniello June 21st

CAMERON—A pretrial hearing in the Shawn Vincent Boniello capital murder case has been set for June 21 in 20th District Court.

Prosecutor Bill Torrey said Boniello, 30, also known as Shayla Angeline Boniell0, waived arraignment and pleaded “not guilty” earlier this month.

Boniello is charged with the Dec. 3 death of Patricia Ann “Annie” Rader at a Rockdale home.

Torrey is seeking the death penalty.

There are other capital murder cases pending in Milam County in connection with the Jan. 19, 2017, death of Emily Hacker in Rockdale. The first of those is set for May 20.

City of Thorndale okays police grant request

THORNDALE—Meeting in regular session last Wednesday at City Hall,the Thorndale City Council approved a grant for COPSYNC software to assist the Thorndale Police Department.

COPSYNC is communications technology for law enforcement agencies.

In other business, the council:

• Approved sale of police firearms so new ones can be purchased.

• Accepted an anonymous donation to fund grant writing for a water well.

• Accepted the resignation of Bill Bransom from the Thorndale Housing Authority.

• Appointed Robert McBride to an unexpired term on the Housing Authority.

• Accepted the resignation of Municipal Court Clerk Sandra Kendrick.
