Lions Club soup suppers ending this Thursday

The Rockdale Noon Lions Club’s annual soup suppers, a delicious winter tradition, ends Thursday in the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park.

Price is $8 per person and includes roll/cornbread, tea/ water and dessert. Hours are 5 to 7 p.m.

Soup options this week are chicken and dumplings, tomato basil and chicken gumbo.

All proceeds raised at the soup dinners will go to the Rockdale Noon Lions Eyesight Program, supporting children in the community.

Milano VFD slates chili supper February 16th

MILANO—The Milano Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chili supper Saturday, Feb. 16, at the fire station.

Hours are 4:30 p.m. until sold out. Tickets are $8 for adults, $12 for children under 12, free for children under two.

The chili supper will include a live auction. Proceeds go to the Milano VFD.

Band Boosters slate spaghetti meal Monday

Rockdale Band Boosters will hold their annual spaghetti supper Monday in the junior-high commons.

Hours are 5 to 8 p.m.

The event will also feature the annual senior cake live auction.

Tickets are priced at $9 per plate.

A cash drawing fund raiser will be held at 7:30 p.m. The winner must be present at the drawing.

The annual spaghetti supper also features live performances by Rockdale ISD bands.

The evening is a major fund raiser for the band program.

KC’s VFD’s chili dinner set for Feb. 18th at Hall

Knights of Columbus Council 7014’s annual appreciation chili dinner Rockdale and Milam County law enforcement, Rock-dale, Black Jack, Milano, Minerva and Gause firefighters and AMR ambulance personnel is set for Feb 18 at the KC Hall.

MARC Ride group sets meeting for Sunday

First organizational meeting for the 18th annual MARC Ride is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at The Ranch.

The ride date has been moved to June 8 after previous year’s rides were held the second Saturday in April.

Blood drive set Sunday at Thorndale St. Paul’s

THORNDALE—The next Baylor Scott & White Blood Drive is set for Sunday, at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Thorndale.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 12-noon and a photo ID is required.

Thorndale trustees okay superintendent’s pact

THORNDALE—The Thorndale ISD School Board, meeting recently in its January monthly session, extended the contract of Supt. Adam Ivy for one year.

The action came after an executive session. Ivy also received a salary increase.

Board members approved a $19,500 expenditure for a new high school bell and public address system.

Ivy informed the board the current 20-year-old system had finally stopped working. “It had been repaired many times but is beyond repair.”

He said the new system is the same as the current system at the Middle School and the two systems will be connected.

Trustees discussed the budgeting for student meals during extra-curricular activities.

Input has been solicited from TISD athletic directors for a board decision to be made later.
