Alcohol-Drug awareness meeting Tuesday at JH

Parents and guardians are urged to attend an alcohol and drug trends awareness meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the junior-high commons, immediately following the monthly P-TO meeting.

The program is sponsored by the Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service and Rockdale ISD.

Presenters will provide examples “from local establishments that promote youth to use alcohol or drug paraphernalia,” an RISD news release said.

Annual police-RVFD

event ahead Feb. 23

The 12th Annual Police/ Firefighter of the Year Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23 at the KC Hall in Rockdale.

The event ticket will include a barbecue meal, dance, silent auction, and live auction.

Tickets are on sale at the Police Department.

The banquet is paid for solely by donated funds. No tax dollars are used.

Milano VFD slates chili supper February 16th

MILANO—The Milano Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chili supper Saturday, Feb. 16, at the fire station.

Hours are 4:30 p.m. until sold out. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12, free for children under two.

The chili supper will include a live auction. Proceeds go to the Milano VFD.

KC’s VFD’s chili dinner set for Feb. 18th at Hall

Knights of Columbus Council 7014’s annual appreciation chili dinner is set for Feb 18 at the KC Hall.

Honorees are Rock-dale and Milam County law enforcement, Rockdale, Black Jack, Milano, Minerva and Gause firefighters and ambulance personnel.

PAWS planning pet

adoption for Feb. 16

Rockdale Pet Adoption Welfare Services (PAWS) will hold a pet adoption event Saturday, Feb. 16, at the I&GN Historical Depot.

Hours have been tentatively set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. More information will be announced next week.

Intermediate school

begins ‘heart challenge’

Kids Heart Challenge has begun at Rockdale Intermediate School. RISD has participated in the program for over 29 years.

Last year RIS students raised $6,454. This year’s, goal is $5,000.

Fund raising is underway and continue through Feb. 27, when the jumping event will take place.

Black Jack VFD slates

chili supper Feb. 16th

CALDWELL—The Black Jack Volunteer Fire Department’s annual chili supper and live auction is set for Feb. 16 at the Burleson County Expo Center in Caldwell.

Serving begins at 5 p.m. with the live auction starting at 6.

Chili supper tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 2 to 12.

Takeouts are available.

Fund raising donations are $20 with a drawing for a number of items.

Substitute training

ahead in Rockdale ISD

Mandatory training for all new Rockdale ISD substitute teachers will be held Feb. 14, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Rockdale ISD Conference Room, 520 West Davilla).

Training will include processes for the automated substitute service system Rockdale ISD has implemented.

Individuals interested in becoming substitute teachers must attend this training in order to qualify for the substitute list.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and provide consent to a criminal background check.

Substitute applications can be picked up at the RISD Central Office (520 W. Davilla) prior to the training.

GOP women hosting

annual dinner Thursday

CAMERON—Milam County Republican Women will head celebrated speaker and disability advocate Army Staff Sgt. (Ret.) Earl Granville at their annual Independence Day Dinner and Program at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cameron VFW Hall.

Sgt. Granville lost hie left leg in an IED explosion in Afghanistan and is a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient.
