Singer hosting library program on Thursday
Programs are set at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library on consecutive Thursdays the next two Thursdays, according to Librarian Melanie Todd.
Robert Lawhon will present an evening of music May 17 and author Sean Wall will host a book signing May 24.
Both will begin at 6 p.m.
Robert Lawhon spent a year playing live music, twice a week, on Duck Sheffield’s radio show along with special guests Cowboy Weaver, Garland Westbrook, Jerry Neal, and many others.
He released a single in 2014.
Surplus food giveaway Thursday at KC Hall
Central Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry will host a distribution at 9 a.m. Thursday, at the KC Hall, according to Denise Sifuentes, spokesperson.
“Since the distribution relies totally on volunteer help, volunteers will be needed and greatly appreciated,” she said

Central Texas Food Bank distributions are held the third Thursday of each month.
“Clients are asked to bring sacks, boxes, or other receptacles,” Sifuentes said.
Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, she said.
Commissioners discuss strategy on next budget
CAMERON—How to cope with an anticipated major loss of taxable values, due to Luminant’s closing, was a topic of discussion for county commissioners in a regular meeting Monday.
County Judge Dave Barkemeyer said the county currently has about $885,000 in reserves and outlined a strategy to hang onto those funds for use when the Luminant crunch kicks in.
Barkemeyer set a goal of county expenditures coming in 5 percent under budget to preserve the reserves for use next year.
Cameron woman hurt in rural wreck Sunday
A Cameron woman was flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bryan after she was injured in a 6:20 a.m. Sunday accident on FM 3242 near CR 239.
Trooper Ernest Del-Bosque said Nicole Perez was ejected through the windshield and her vehicle overturned into a creek bed.
Damages were termed “extensive.”
Student transfers now being accepted at RISD
Parents of students transferring into the Rock-dale Independent School District from other school districts are reminded to submit application for student transfers for the 2018-2019 school year, according to Dr. Denise Monzingo, Superintendent. There is no transfer fee.
Transfer forms may be completed by contacting Dyan Shelander in the office of the superintendent at 520 West Davilla, during regular office hours, Monday through Friday.
VFW to host Memorial Day ceremony May 28th
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 will host Rock-dale’s annual Memorial Day observance at 9 a.m. Monday, May 28, at VFW Post 6525, 978 West US 79.
Names of all known Milam County war dead, from World War I to the Global War on Terror will be read by Rockdale High School students.
The Communities in Concert Band will perform and there will be a presentation remembering POW/ MIAs.
