Mayfest set for Sunday at Rockdale KC Hall
The annual St. Joseph’s Mayfest will be held Sunday at the KC Hall with barbecue sale, auctions and prize drawing.
It’s sponsored by the church and Knights of Columbus Council 7014.
The celebration begin at 11 a.m. and continues until food and prizes are gone.
There’s a barbecue beef and sausage dinner, dine-in or take-out. Tickets are $10 each and tacos, tamales and kolaches are also available for sale.
A live auction begins at 12:30 p.m. There’s also a cake walk, plant booth, music, silent auction, inside and outside children’s games and prizes.
There’s a quilt fund raiser and a prize drawing for gift cards.
Letter Carriers food
drive ahead May 11th
The annual Letter Carriers Food Drive to benefit the Rockdale Christian Services Food Pantry is set for Saturday, May 11.
Place your non-perishable donation in a bag by your mailbox and your carrier will pick it up.
Food will be collected and given to the RCS Food Pantry for distribution.
RHS Awards Ceremony moved up to May 15th
Rockdale High School’s 2019 Awards Ceremony, originally scheduled for Thursday, May 16, has been moved up one day to Wednesday, May 15, according to RHS Counselor Kelly Windham.
We had students qualify for the UIL state tennis meet and their match is on Thursday, May 16, Windham said.
The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. in the RHS Gym.
Milam Theater slates
work day for Saturday
Milam Community Theater is coordinating a work day for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Williams Event Center, 408 South Columbus in Cameron, according to Jonathon Deal, spokesman.
We need volunteers. There are several jobs that need to be done,” Deal said.
Tasks include building shelves, moving heavy objects, organizing costume closet and prop room, helping install flooring.
“If time and money allows, we will need help putting up drywall and painting,” he said.
Water district to meet Tuesday in Milano
MILANO—The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the POSGCD offices in Milano.
Agenda items include update on water level monitoring work and areas of focus, a report on the district’s Aquifer Conservancy Program, joint planning process and Desired Future Conditions and the monthly reports on permit applications, well drilling activities and more.
Free shredding event
scheduled at CNB
Anyone wanting to shred documents which are no longer needed may do so in a free event next week at Citizens National Bank in downtown Rockdale, 140 East Cameron (US 79).
Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, through Friday, May 10, and again Monday, May 13, to Wednesday, May 15.
While shredding is free to everyone in the community, there’s a suggested donation of a children’s book to benefit the Bookspring children’s literacy program.
Limit is three boxes, no binder clips, no binders, stapled papers or catalogs and items must be under one inch thick.
First Friday event
ahead at city library
The monthly First Friday get-together is set for Friday morning at the city library.
Hours are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
The free First Fridays are informal mix-and-mingle events and are open to all interested persons.
Light refreshments will be served.
