Project Graduation ahead Friday night
Project Graduation, Rockdale’s annual substance-free post-graduation all-night activity for new RHS grads will take place at the conclusion of commencement exercises Friday.
According to the RISD, a bus will board at the school and take graduates to the High-Five Family entertainment Center in the Lake Travis area for an overnight of food and games.
The bus will return to RHS Saturday morning.
City pool, set to open with new operator
Rockdale’s City Swimming Pool in Veterans Park will open for the 2019 spring and summer season at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The pool has a new operator this year. It will be managed by the Hutto YMCA.
The pool will also be open for the Memorial Day holiday Monday.
Regular hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Hospital board seeks assistance from MDD
As promised, the Rockdale Hospital Board is seeking financial assistance from the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) in its attempts to reach an agreement with CHI-St. Joseph’s to open health care facilities in Rockdale.
Dick Burns, hospital board chair, had asked the City of Rockdale to commit $150,000 of its sales tax collections to health care two weeks go.
Burns told the council he would also make a request to the MDD.
Until 2010 a half-cent sales tax went to hospital operations. That was changed by an election which created the Rockdale Municipal Development District, and the funding has gone to the MDD.
Community Theatre sets ‘80 Days’ tryouts
CAMERON—Milam County Community Theater will hold auditions for its 2019 summer production “Around the World in 80 Days” at 6:30 p.m. May 28 and 29 at the Williams Event Center.
Jonathon Deal, spokesman for the theater group, said audition information can be found on the website milamcommunitytheater.com .
The classic story, which was made into an Oscar Best Picture winner in 1956, follows the adventures of British adventurer Phileas Fogg and his French manservant Passepartout as they attempt to circle the globe in 1872 on a “gentleman’s bet.”
