Milano gets new 2019 valedictorian graduate
MILANO—A recalculation of grade-point averages at Milano High School has produced a new valedictorian, according to Catrina Steinbecker, Director of Student Services.
Parker Jones, previously announced as the salutatorian, is the 2019 valedictorian.
He is the son of Brad and Angelee Jones and will attend Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, in the fall.
Blood drive Sunday
at St. Paul’s, Thorndale
THORNDALE—St. Paul Lutheran Church and School will host a Baylor Scott & White Blood Center Blood Drive Sunday.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 12-noon. Donors will receive a T-shirt.

Meeting set Tuesday for Veterans Memorial plan
The City of Rockdale is planning to install a memorial honoring veterans at Veterans Memorial Park.
Curah Beard, city marketing director, said a public meeting to view and comment on design options for the memorial is set from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525.
She said refreshments will be provided by the VFW Auxiliary.
Temporary water bill help planned by city
To temporarily aid senior citizens with increased water bills, the City of Rock-dale is working with The Area Agency on Aging to provide supplemental financial assistance to qualified seniors, according to Curah Beard, city marketing director.
Rockdale water customers age 60-plus whose monthly income is less than $1,561 for an individual or $2,114 for a couple should attend the Intake Meeting at 9:30 a.m. June 20 at the Senior Citizens Center.

TxDOT eyeing overpass for North Milam corner
The Texas Dept. of Transportation (TxDOT) is accepting “requests for a public hearing” regarding its preliminary plans to construct an overpass at the intersection of US 77 and FM 485 north of Cameron.
According to TxDOT, any interested person may request a public hearing on the plans but requests must be submitted in writing on or before Sunday (June 9) to” TxDOT Bryan District Office, c/0 James Norment-Environmental Specialist, 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway, Bryan, Texas 77803-5190.

Juneteenth to feature parade, speaker, food
Rockdale’s annual Juneteenth observance is set for Saturday, June 15 with a downtown parade, ending at Sumuel Park.
Grand marshal will be Pearlie Mack. Speaker will be Lee Alcorn
The observance begins with a parade beginning at the former McVoy Feed and Seed Building, Milam at Main, and continuing to Sumuel Park, Fourth ad MLK.
Music is provided by Lynda Ford (Lady Lynda).
“The entire community is invited to attend the fun event,” spokesperson Lisa Roberts said. “Please bring your lawn chair an fellowship with friends and neighbors. All food and refreshments are free.”
Troopers investigate area wrecks in week
Milam County State Troopers investigated a couple of highway accidents in southern and western Milam County during the past week.
No injuries and minor damages were reported in a one-vehicle accident on FM 3061, southwest of County Road 412 on Sunday, according to Trooper Ernest DelBosque.
Driver was listed as Derek Evans of Rockdale.
A two-vehicle collision was reported May 29 in Milano at the US 79-US 190 intersection, according to Trooper Joshua Hendricks.
Drivers were listed as Joshua Phelps, address not listed, and David Soler of Odessa.
Brown Santa golf set for July 20th in Cameron
CAMERON—The ninth annual Milam County Brown Santa Golf Tourney is set for Saturday, July 20 at the Cameron Country Club.
The late Sheriff David Greene founded the tourney in 2010 to provide Christmas gifts for underprivileged Milam County children.

White said hole sponsorships for 2019 are available for $100 per sign. “Anyone who would like to be a sponsor needs to get sponsorship information tom us by July 5,” he said.

The Brown Santa Golf Tourney will have morning golfers starting a 8 a.m. with afternoon golfers beginning at 1 p.m.
