Rockdale hosting July Fourth fireworks in ‘19

It’s Rockdale’s turn to host the Fourth of July fireworks bash.

Fair Park will be the site of the 6 to 10 p.m. observance on Thursday, July Fourth.

According to the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, $5 wristbands will be sold for unlimited children’s games.

Food vendors will sell hot dogs, sausage, wraps, kolaches, corn-in-a-cup, nachos and funnel cakes.

Music will be by the Communities in Concert Band.

Sponsors are Atmos Energy, Citizens National Bank, Classic Bank, Rockdale Federal credit Union and Knife River concrete and Minerals.

Street closings begin

for road drainage work

Part of one major West Rockdale intersection is closed while crews repair/ replace driving surfaces and fix drainage.

And another will shut down Monday for the same reason.

City Manager Chris Whittaker listed locations as follows:

The intersection of Meadow and Murray closed Monday and “No Through Traffic” signs were be placed on blocks appropriate locations.

Starting Monday it’s the turn of the Yokley and Rockdale Road corner.

Both will be shut down for two weeks.

VFW hosting free

breakfast July Fourth

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525, and its Auxiliary, invite the public to a free Fourth of July breakfast at the post home, 978 West US 79.

Spokesperson Donna Diver said the breakfast is open to everyone and will be held from 7 to 10:30 a.m. on the Fourth.

Five draw sentences

in 20th District Court

CAMERON—20th District Court action last week:

• Dakota Shain Thompson, 21, Temple, pleaded true to motion to revoke probation on burglary of habitation, four-year prison term, $8,500 restitution.

• Santos Adrian Dominguez, 24, Cameron, pleaded true to a motion to revoke probation on attempted aggravated robbery, three-year prison term.

• Jeffrey Paul Pekar, 31, Elgin, pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily injury, two years deferred adjudication, $2,500 fine.

• Stacy Brewer, 35, Rockdale pleaded true to a motion to revoke probation on possession of controlled substance (less than one gram), 12-month state jail term, $180 restitution to DPS lab.

• Carissa Simmons Martin, 42, San Antonio, pleaded true to motion to revoke probation on possession of controlled substance (less than one gram), 38-day county jail term.

school supplies drive

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525, and its Auxiliary, are now accepting donations for its annual school supplies drive.

School supplies will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the post home, on West US 79.

Kay seeks sponsors for summer movie project

The Kay Theater is showing two movies, sponsored by Alpha Tau Omega sorority, and is looking for more sponsors for other events later in the summer.

“How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” will be shown July 11 and “Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” will be shown July 12.

Showings are at 10 a.m., 2 an 7 p.m.

Admission is $1 and there’s $1 drinks, popcorn or candy, according to spokesman Bob Burnett.

“We are hoping to show other movies later this summer at the Kay, possibly on Thursday evenings, and need some sponsors,” he said. “Interested sponsors may contact me at 512-760-7480.”
