City looking for seniors in water-bill pay effort
A June 20 meeting to inform Rockdale senior citizens some may be eligible to have their May and June water bills paid by an area agency did not draw the hoped-for crowd, according to City Manager Chris Whittaker.
So now the city is reaching out to try and find those city residents.
“We’ve learned those eligible can now get their entire water bills paid for those two months, not just a portion,” Whittaker said.
Here are the eligibility guidelines: Ages 60 and over, monthly income is less than $1,561 for an individual or $2,114 for a couple.
“This is money made available from the Area Agency on Aging,” Whittaker said. “We have to use it or we have to give it back. We really want to contact everyone who is eligible and let them know.”
Whittaker said the city is reaching out to residents on the home-delivered meal program and checking its computer system to find residents who have been assisted by other programs.

Medical helicopter aid for Milam residents
Milam County residents are urge to sign up for a helicopter medical transport service recently approved by county commissioners.
“It’s with PHI Air Medical and will support all residents of the county,” Susan Reinders, Emergency Medical coordinator said.
“If a resident is transported by PHI Air Medical air ambulance to a location within Milam County or an adjacent county (Falls, Robertson, Burleson, Lee or Bell) the patient will not receive a bill or be required to pay any additional costs for their PHI air emergency transportation, including associated co-pays or deductibles.
But Milam residents must sign up first and receive a “PHI Cares” sticker to be affixed to a resident ID card which will identify the person as eligible.
Milam residents may obtain the stickers from the following locations:
• Rockdale City Hall, 505 West Cameron Avenue (US 79), Rockdale; phone, 512-446-2511.

She said there are 9,437 households and 25,053 residents in Milam County and PHI Cares’ service is available to them all.
Milam County Commissioners recently decided to commit to the PHI service for county residents.
