New student signup ahead in Rockdale ISD
The Rockdale ISD has announced dates for new student registration for the 2019-2020 school term.
New students may register, at all four campuses during these dates and hours:
• July 31—8 a.m. to 12-noon, 1 to 4 p.m.
• Thursday—10 a.m. to 12-noon, 1 to 6:30 p.m.
• Friday—8 a.m. to 12-noon, 1 to 4 p.m.
Aug. 15 is first class day.
Union picnic slated Saturday at The Ranch
The annual United Steelworkers Local 4895 picnic is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, at The Ranch, according to David Edmonds, USW spokesman.
Troopers investigate Rockdale-area wrecks
Milam County State Troopers investigated several motor vehicle accidents during the week in the area.
The DPS, Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department and an AMR ambulance crew responded to a two-vehicle collision at 3:18 p.m. July 24 in the 4400 block of County Road 448, near County Road 452.
Drivers were listed as Abbey Rubio of Thorndale and Angela Sera of Mimbres, New Mexico.
Damages were termed moderate.
Extensive damages were reported in one-vehicle accident at 3:17 p.m. Saturday on US 79, one mile east of Thorndale.
Driver was listed as Brad Pope of Giddings.
No information was available from the DPS on a reported two-vehicle accident at the US 79-Texas 36 intersection in Milano at 4:16 p.m. Sunday. The Milano Volunteer Fire Department responded.
MCT play continues stagings this weekend
CAMERON—“Around the World in 80 Days,” new Milam Community Theatre production will be staged three times this weekend at the Williams Event Center in Cameron.
Performances are set for at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Summer band practice continues in Rockdale
Rockdale High School Big Blue Band members have cranked up the 2019-2020 school year.
Remainder of the summer schedule is as follows:
• Monday—Parent meeting, 6 p.m.
• Monday-Tuesday—8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Aug, 7-9, 12—4:40 to 7 p.m.
VFW, Auxiliary plan supply drive Saturday
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525, and its Auxiliary, will distribute school supplies from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the post home on West US 79.
The organizations continue to accept donations for the annual drive.

Blood drive Aug. 11th at St. Paul’s, Thorndale
THORNDALE—Baylor Scott & White Bloodmobile will host a blood drive from 8 a.m. t 12-noon Aug. 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School.
Registration is inside the church gym. A photo ID is required to register.
All August donors will receive free limited-edition patriotic beach towels.

City talks budget next week in workshops
Rockdale City Council members will meet in budget workshops Aug 5-8 in 5:30 p.m. sessions at City Hall.
As in past years, if the council works through the budget in less than four sessions, one or more of the sessions will be canceled, according to City Manager Chris Whittaker.
