Downtown restaurant closes doors Friday

A popular downtown Rockdale restaurant closed its doors Friday.

Oak Leaf Bakery & Diner customers found a note posted to the door saying: “It is with heavy hearts we inform you that we must close our doors.”

The note went on to thank customers and say the business will continue to cater and to rent the building for special events.

Oak Leaf had been open almost exactly one year.

Water districts joint planning meeting set

MILANO–Groundwater Management Area 12 will hold a Joint Planning Meeting on Tuesday,t the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District office in Milano.

Attendance is free and open to the public.

Annual Fun run/walk events at the Kay, Oct. 5

The Historic Kay Theater will sponsor their 1K Fun Run and 5K Walk/Run on Sat., Oct 5.

Participants will receive a race shirt, bib and ticket to their pancake breakfast.

There are events for both the serious runners and those wishing to escape the zombie apocalypse.

There will also be a costume contest for all ages: Run/Walk in a family friendly costume.

Registration forms can be picked up at The Rockdale Reporter and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce office.

Entry fee for the 1K Trick or Treat Run is $15 before Oct. 4 and $18 on race day and for the 5K Race/ Walk $25 before Oct. 4 and $30 on race day.

T-shirt size not guaranteed for registrations received after Sept. 13.

Rockdale Fair deadline changes this year listed

A number of changes have been made in deadlines for entering the 2019 Rockdale Fair as follows:

• Baked goods auction entry forms are due Sept. 27 (postmarked no later than this date).

• Ag mechanics entry forms due Oct. 1 (postmarked no later than this date).

• Pig scramble entry forms due no later than Oct. 2, $5 per entry per contestant. Pig scramble is 7 p.m. Oct. 16.

• Palpation and body condition scoring, 8 to 10 a.m. Oct. 5, Milam County Auction Barn, Cameron.

• Exhibitor kickoff, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16, Fair Park with free exhibitor T-shirts, free hot dog dinner for all, family night at Fair Carnival, pick up exhibitor passes, bring tack, feed, signage, stalls but no animals. Ag mechanics check-in 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

RISD campus council rep applicants wanted

Openings exist for a business representative and community representative on Campus Education Councils in the Rockdale ISD.

Parent representatives must have students on the campus for which they apply. Community representatives must reside in the Rockdale ISD, be at least 18 years old and cannot be the parent of a student currently enrolled in the district.

Business representatives must own or operate a business but the business does not have to be located in the Rockdale ISD. Parent, community and business representatives cannot be employees of the Rockdale ISD.

Application deadline is Oct. 4. Applications may be picked up at any campus office or at the Central Administration Office.
