Memorial ‘ruck-n-ride’ to honor fallen soldiers

A memorial “ruck and ride” to honor two Milam County men who died in the Global War on Terror is set for Saturday, Nov. 16, along highways named for them.

A portion of US 77 north of Rockdale is named for Master Sgt. Charles Price, while a segment north of Cameron is named for 2nd Lt. Darryn Andrews, both Cameron natives.

The event will begin with a ruck—moving gear by backpack—along the Andrews segment at 2 p.m., starting from Cameron’s City Park.

A motorcycle and classic car procession will begin at 3 p.m. from Rockdale Brook-shire Bros. and travel along the Price segment.

The two streams of travel will meet at Cameron City Park at 3:15 p.m. and a presentation honoring all county and municipalities’ military, law enforcement, fire and emergency responders follows at 3:30 p.m.

Organizer Bobbie Wiseman said all Milam service members, present and past are invited to join. “Usually a ruck requires a weighted backpack. However that won’t be necessary for our memorial ruck,” she said.
