Turkey giveaway begins

The annual Christmas turkey giveaway, sponsored by local merchants through the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce has begun and will run until the week of Christmas.

Here’s how it works. When KRXT plays a “gobbling” sound if you are the first to call you win a $15 gift certificate toward the purchase of a turkey.

Rockdale ISD bands will present their annual Christmas Concert at 7 p.m Thursday in the high school audi torium.

applications for 2019

Brown Santa, the Milam County Sheriff Depart ment’s Christmas-time drive to provide toys for the needy will take applications at the sheriff’s office in Cam eron until Dec. 12.

Applicants must bring a Medicaid or WIC card with the child’s name, a current utility bill, a birth certificate (if the child is not in school) or a report card/ progress report if the child is in school.

Parents/guardians must have valid Texas IDs. Applications may be picked up at the sheriff’s office.

New, unwrapped toys may be donated at the sheriff’s office. Money may be donated at the Brown Santa account at Classic Bank or by mail to: Brown Santa/Wynema Adams, 512 North Jefferson, Cameron, TX 76520.

Brown Santa serves children in all areas of Milam County.

Fire calls listed for

South Milam VFDs

Here are fire calls dispatched for South Milam County volunteer fire departments from the Rock-dale Police Department during the past eight days:

• 10:33 p.m. Nov. 25, Rockdale VFD responded to Village Courts, 1239 West US 79 for report an oven had exploded. Flames were extinguished before arrival, oven was still smoldering, smoke in residence.

• 1:26 p.m. Saturday, Milano VFD responded to grass fire, 2600 block of County Road 342.

• 7:26 p.m. Saturday, Rockdale and Thorndale VFD responded to report of hay fire spreading toward pasture on CR 412, Fire was reported as an out-of-control burn.
