Lions Soup Suppers change dates, location
The Noon Lions Club’s annual January soup suppers are changing a bit for 2020.
Allen Sanders, club president said instead of holding the tasty events every Thursday during the month they will scheduled only twice, Jan. 9 and 23. Each of those is a Thursday.
There’s also a new location, the Rockdale Junior-High Commons. Hours are 5 to 7 p.m.
Cost is $8 per person and includes soup, roll or cornbread, tea/ water and dessert.
Sanders said there will be three choices each of the two nights.
Chefs will prepare three soups from the following list:
Chuck wagon stew, chicken and dumplings, potato soup, tomato soup, taco soup and broccoli and cheese soup.
Funds raised will go toward Lions projects to benefit the community.
Commissioners asking for POSGCD hopeful
CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners are seeking nominations for a candidate to replace a retiring director on the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) board.
The water conservation district, composed of Milam and Burleson Counties, is governed by a 10-member board with the commissioner court of each county appointing five directors.
Longtime director Durwood Tucker of Milam County is retiring and Milam commissioners plan to appoint his replacement on Jan. 20.
Commissioners will accept written applications from anyone interested in the position through the close of business Jan. 10.
Applications must be submitted to the Milam County Judge, 102 South Fannin, Cameron, TX 76520.
Directors are appointed to represent agriculture, municipalities, industry and rural water.
The fifth director from each county is an at-large representative.
Lifeline Screening sets visit to civic center
Lifeline Screening will be at the Patterson Center on Jan. 16 to offer Rockdale residents a variety of health screening services.
Screenings can assess risks for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and other chronic illnesses.
Screenings can check for plaque buildup in the heart, cholesterol levels, signs of diabetes, bone density, kidney and thyroid function and more.
Lifeline’s Joelle said packages start at $149 but added: “Contributors will work with you to create a package that is right for you based on your age and risk factors.
No action in regular MDD board meeting
No action was taken Dec. 18 as the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) met in regular session at the MDD office.
Board members discussed creation of a business incubator to assist new and startup companies to develop by providing services such as management training, shared workspace or staff, reduced cost professional services and a variety of other aspects during their early years.
