Commissioners okay Second Amendment

support resolution

CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners, meeting Monday at the county courthouse, joined 60 other Texas counties in adopting a resolution supporting the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

The resolution also received the support of Sheriff Chris White and Prosecutor Bill Torrey.

As a result, the county prohibits or impedes the enforcement of certain control measures seen as violations of Second Amendment rights.

AWARD—Commissioners designated longtime Rockdale historian Dr. Lucile Estell as “member emeritus” of the County Historical Commission.

Dr. Estell was one of the founders of the El Camino Real National Historic Trail in the county and has authored books on Milam history.

AGREEMENT—In a matter held over from a previous meeting, an agreement was reached with citizen Jason Talley to maintain County Roads 242 and 242A.

An additional agreement was made with Michael Fulton, owner of Little River Materials, to maintain CRs 253, 254, and 255 west to CR257

Father-daughter dance Feb. 21st at KC Hall

The 13th annual Father-Daughter Dance, benefiting the Rockdale Tiger Booster Club scholarship fund, is set for Friday, Feb. 21, at the KC Hall.

Hours are 7 to 9 p.m.

Admission is $20 per couple, $5 for each additional daughter.

Tickets may be purchased at Gatti’s Pizza, Charming Blossoms and Rockdale Signs.

Music will be by Jon and Crissy Flores.

RVFD fund raiser’s

tickets on sale Monday

Tickets for the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fund raising night at the KC Hall will go on sale Monday, according to spokesman Mike Korenek.

The fund raiser is set for April 18.

Tickets will be sold to persons on a year-to-year list.

Police-Firefighters set banquet for Feb. 22nd

The annual Rockdale Police Officer of the Year-Firefighter of the Year Banquet is set for Saturday, Feb. 22, at the KC Hall.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Jon Flores with catering by Lee’s Landing.

It features silent and live auctions. Funds raised go to banquet expenses.

A number of awards will be presented in addition to the traditional Officer of the Year and Firefighter of the Year awards.

KC’s set to host annual appreciation dinner

Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council 7014 will host it annual chili dinner for Milam County law enforcement and firefighters Monday at the KC Hall.

The event honors law enforcement, Rockdale, Black Jack, Milano, Minerva and Gause firefighters and AMR ambulance crews.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for social activities and a chili supper will be served at about 6 p.m., KC spokesman Mike Korenek said.

RISD slates TAPR

hearing for Tuesday

A hearing for public discussion of the annual Rockdale ISD Texas Academic Performance Report is set for the Feb. 19 RISD school board meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Administration Building.

Pam Kaufmann, assistant superintendent, said information will be provided regarding the report, district financial standard report, district accreditation status, district and campus performance objectives, reports of violent or criminal incidents, and high school graduates’ enrollment and academic performance in Texas Public Higher Education.

Tickets for 2020 Mardi Gras Bash now on sale

Tickets are on sale for the eight annual Mardi Gras bash held on Feb. 22 to raise funds for the Christine Holcombe Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The “Mardi Gras” bash will be held Feb. 22, at Simon George Hall, in Cameron. The event will start at 6 p.m. and will include a Cajun food dinner, live auction, a donation fund raiser and kids activities. Adult tickets are $10 and children under 18 are $5.

Tickets can be purchased at the Milam County Extension Office in Cameron, The Rockdale Reporter and Rodenbeck Farm & Ranch in Thorndale.

Area attorney selected to ‘Super Lawyers’ list

CAMERON—Richard A Dodd, of Cappolino, Dodd, Krebs LLP, in Cameron, has been selected to the Texas Super Lawyers list for the fourth time.

Super Lawyers is a research-driven, peer-influenced rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. Super Lawyers mission is to provide visibility to attorneys who exhibit excellence in the practice of law.

Black Jack VFD plans annual chili supper

The Black Jack Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual chili supper-live auction Feb. 22 at the fire station.

Serving starts at 5 p.m with the auction at 6.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 2 to 12.

Fair Association sets

annual scholarship

The Rockdale Fair Association is accepting applications for its annual scholarship.

Eligible graduating seniors must be Milam County residents and attend a Milam County school. They must also be active in FFA or 4-H and be an active exhibitor. Applications are due to Sheree Smith on 229 CR 448 by April 10.
