Methodist Men’s Chili Supper ahead Thursday at St. John’s Fellowship Hall
The Methodist Men of St. John’s United Methodist Church will hold their annual Chili Supper fund-raiser on Thursday, serving from 5 until 7 p.m. (dine-in or take-out). The event will be held at the church fellowship hall, Summit at Hillcrest streets in Rockdale.
Tickets are priced at $9 each and can be purchased from any member of the Methodist Men and will also be available at the doors on the day of the event.
John Shoemake, Methodist Men president, said all funds raised by the annual supper are used by the organization to provide handicap ramps and other community service projects for those in need of help. “We will appreciate the continued fine community support we have had for this event,” he said.
Black Jack VFD plans annual chili supper
The Black Jack Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual chili supper-live auction Saturday at the fire station.
Serving starts at 5 p.m with the auction at 6.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 2 to 12.
Takeout is available.
CT Food Bank sets
two monthly visits
In partnership with Rockdale Christian Services, the Central Texas Food Bank will now be operating two mobile pantry distributions at the Rockdale KC Hall, according to Pam Warren, RCS chair.
She said distributions will be on the first and third Thursdays of every month from 9 to 11:00 a.m.
“Mobile pantry distributions provide protein, non-perishable pantry staples, and fresh produce. These distributions are free of charge and do not require ID or proof of income,” she said.
Chamber of Commerce
extends award deadline
The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce has extended the deadline to nominate persons for awards to be presented at its annual banquet by two weeks, according to Denise Brock, executive director.
The banquet is set for March 19 at the Patterson Civic Center
Theme is “Fiesta: A Celebration of Community” and attendees are asked to dress the part.
Food Bank sets visit
Thursday at KC Hall
Central Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry will have a distribution at 9 a.m. Thursday, February 20, at 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the KC Hall.
“Since the distribution relies totally on volunteer help, volunteers will be needed & greatly appreciated,” Denise Sifuentes, spokesperson, said.
Contact Deanie Houser at 512-446-3336 for further information. Distributions are held the third Thursday of each month. Clients are asked to bring sacks and boxes for groceries.
Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Volunteers sought for
after-school program
Rockdale Elementary School is searching for volunteers for its ACE After-School programs.
“If you enjoy working with children in grades K-2 the ACE After-School Program is for you,: coordinator Ashley Evans said.
Programs run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m..
Evans said volunteer tutors are needed in reading, writing and math.

Thorndale city makes choices for city boards
THORNDALE—The Thorndale City Council, meeting in regular session last Wednesday at City Hall, transacted the following items of business.
The council:
• Appointed Sue Widner to fill a vacancy in the Thorndale Housing Authority.
• Named Pat Kratzer and Shirley Becker to the Thorndale Housing Authority Board.
• Appointed Brian Morton, Gerald Niemtschk and Nell Weise to the Thorndale Economic Development Board of Directors.
• Approved a “ladder program: for investing city funds in CDs.
• Okayed three new bank accounts for City Court.
• Approved closure of the Christmas Light Fund Account.
• Approved City Administrator Keith Kiesling to manage additional funding for water tower rehabilitation.
Treble Soul to appear on ‘American Idol’
Rockdale-based county star due Treble Soul is set to appear on the hit AMC series “American Idol.”
Treble Soul is composed of Rockdale native Hannah Prestridge Jones and husband Curt Jones.
The duo was not included in the Sunday, Feb. 16 show. The 2020 series has two more airings at 7 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 23 and March 1.
School board slates
meetings Wednesday
The Rockdale ISD School Board was to have held a pair of meetings Wednesday (Feb. 19) beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Administration Building.
First scheduled is the annual Texas Academic Performance Report, followed by the regular February meeting.
Agenda items include contracts for the assistant superintendent, principals and assistant principals.
Mardi Gras fund raiser Saturday in Cameron
CAMERON—Organizers are putting the final touches on the 8th annual “Mardi Gras Bash” which will be held Saturday, at Simon George Hall, 401 S. Karnes, in Cameron.
The event will start at 6:p.m., and includes an authentic Cajun food dinner, auctions including a gun raffle, door prizes and activities for the kids.
Adult tickets are $10 and children under 18 are admitted for $5. Tickets can be purchased at the Milam County Extension Office in Cameron, the Rockdale Reporter and Rodenbeck Farm & Ranch in Thorndale. Items for the auction can be dropped off at Ideal Poultry in Cameron. Here is a partial list of some auction items:
• Standards Home Health donating 10 USDA prime ribeye steaks from Thorndale Meat Market. Retail value is $250
• One hour private concert for home or event donated by Casey Stanislaw, with original and standard covers.
• Jaime Galvan of Hecho en Texas is donating a backyard BBQ for 20 with ribs and sausage and all the trimmings.
• Hot Corner Food Truck is donating chicken/beef enchiladas, rice & beans, chips, salsa, salad, dessert. and tea for 20 people.
• Outdoor fire pit with s’mores kit donated by the Harrison and Holcombe families.
