Commissioners okay lease at depot-museum

Milam County commissioners, meeting in regular session on Monday, agreed on approving a lease agreement between the Rockdale Historical Society and the Milam County Historical Commission.

County Judge Steve Young said the Rockdale group, which oversees the 114-year-old depot museum, lost its liability insurance last fall and it hoped making the group under the county’s jurisdiction could aid in getting the insurance returned.

He said the county would not be responsible for maintaining the building.

Rainwater Harvesting 101 will be held from 10 a.m. to 12-noon, with Turf Management to follow from 12:20 to 2:30 p.m.

“This double workshop day was designed with our out-of-town guests in mind in hopes of making it even more worth the drive,” Jaclyn Robertson, program assistant, said.

Rainwater Harvesting attendees will receive a certificate of completion that can be used to apply for the POSGCD Rainwater Harvesting Rebate Program which offers up to $3,000 reimbursement for installing such a system within the district (Burleson and Milam Counties).

Turf Management builds off the first workshop and focuses on helping Texas home owners with yard/turf management tips to get the most out of their lawns.

Lunch will be provided by the district.

Thorndale ISD okays gym renovation work

THORNDALE—In two recent meetings the Thorndale ISD finalized a plan to use unspent Interest & Sinking funds for a renovation, including air conditioning, project at the middle school gym.

Business Manager Rebecca Peel said normally I&S funds could only be used to retire bonded indebtedness but since the debt for which they were designated has already been paid off the amount—currently about $85,000—could be put toward the project.

At a subsequent meeting, trustees opened bids from three firms, selecting the low bid of $380,000 from MRI Builders.

Supt. Adam Ivy said the bid was “still negotiable” and it was accepted by the board.
