Weekly winners listed in restaurant contest

Bobby Gibson and Adrianne Zawadzke are this week’s winners in the Rockdale Municipal Development District’s Chow Down Challenge.

The Challenge is designed to assist Rockdale restaurants as they attempt to minimize the impact of closing “eat-in” dining during COVID-19.

The contest lasts through April 26.

Winners, announced each Monday, each receive $50.

Here are the rules:

• Eat (drive through or delivery) at three different local restaurants in a week (Monday through Sunday).

• Spend at least $25 at each one.

• Send copies of receipts, along with name and phone number to info@rockdalemdd.com by 10 a.m. Mondays to be entered for a $50 Visa gift card. Drawings will be at noon Mondays.

Thorndale blood drive canceled on April 19

THORNDALE—The blood drive in Thorndale scheduled for Sunday, April 19, has been canceled, according to spokesperson Stacy Irwin.

The drive was to have been held at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Milam County getting culvert, bridge funds

AUSTIN—Part of a $510,000 Hurricane Harvey Disaster Recovery Grant will go to repair culverts in Rockdale.

Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results on Tuesday.

He said some funds will be used to replace and fortify bridge culverts along West Bell and West Davilla.

Most of the $510,000 will go toward removing the damaged Brushy Creek Slough Bridge on CR 443, reconstructing a new bridge and improving the roadway.
