Food bank visit slated Thursday at KC Hall

The second Rockdale visit of the Central Texas Food Bank for June is set for 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the KC Hall parking lot.

As in past visits, those being served will not get out of their vehicles and all social distancing rules will be enforced.

Senior Center to host frozen food pick-up

Next in a series of frozen food giveaways at the Rockdale Senior Citizen Center is 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, according to Carolyn Cooper, director.

“This is the group which has previously signed up to receive the meals,” she said. For information call Cooper at 512-446-2666.

Four fire calls listed for South Milam VFDs

Fire calls for the past week, dispatched from the Rockdale Police Station:

• 5:48 p.m. Thursday, Texas 36 at CR 344 Loop, Milano VFD.

• 11:31 p.m. Thursday, structure fire 1300 block of East Cameron (US 79), Rockdale VFD.

• 3:33 p.m. Friday, grass fire, 800 block of FM 1712, Rockdale VFD.

Vehicle damages, one hurt in area accidents

Area accidents investigated by DPS State Troopers during the past week included:

• 3:05 p.m. May 12, FM 437 south of CR 400; drivers Leonard Janke of Buckholts and Mason Watson of Bartlett. Janke taken to Baylor Scott & White, Temple. Damages termed “extensive.”

• 4:15 p.m. May 13, CR 450 east of FM 486, driver Daniel Pitts of Thorndale. Damages termed “extensive.”

• 3:40 a.m. Saturday, US 79-Texas 36 intersection, Milano, driver Tashawn Chunn, Temple. Damages termed “extensive.”

Trustees hire, accept resignations Monday

Rockdale ISD trustees okayed the following personnel moves on Monday during their regular monthly session for May:

Hired—Julia Adams, Brandon Bahara, Morgan Holly, Dale “Skeet” Manley, Makayla Stone, Rene Van Haverbake.

Resigned—Marco Estrada, John McMahon, Tanya Mynar, Dorothy “Ann” Otte, Idalia Castillo. Retired—Donna Scruggs.

Homecoming canceled due to pandemic/virus

There will be no Rockdale Homecoming the second Sunday in June.

Deborah Currey, Homecoming Association president, said the 50-year Rockdale High School honors class would have been the Class of 1970.

She said that class, along with the 50-year Class of 1971, will be honored at the 2021 reunion along with Phillips & Luckey/Clyde Jones Family, which would have been the 2020 Honor Family.
