Summer Meals For Kids offered in 2020
The United States Dept. of Agriculture is offering no cost summer meals for youngsters 18 and under.

Juneteenth called off due to C-19 pandemic
Rockdale’s Juneteenth celebration has become the latest local event to be canceled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In past years it has been held on the Saturday before the actual date—June 19— and has included a parade, music, food and other festivities in the Sumuel Park area.
POSGCD extending conservancy signup
Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) has announced the sign-up period to enroll in the Aquifer Conservancy Program (ACP).
“There will be a $10 per acre signup incentive for qualifying landowners to join their neighbors in the district who have already committed over 37,000 acres including more than 500 parcels already in the program,” Doug Box, spokesman said.

The ACP enables persons owning land above the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifers in the district to commit their groundwater resources into a long-term conservation program for terms of 5, 10, or 20 years while maintaining full ownership and control of their private property.

RCS Food Pantry lists its schedule for June
Here is the June schedule for the Rockdale Christian Services Food Pantry, according to Pam Warren, RCS president:
• Second Thursday and Friday, June 11, 12.
• Fourth Thursday and Friday, June 25, 26.
Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 12-noon.
“Commodity boxes will be available each day we are open,” she said.
Voter registration hours listed by election office
The Milam County Election Department, which is open along with the County Clerk’s office (see page 1A) has announced extended hours as follows:
• June 10, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• June 13, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• June 15 (final day), 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Primary runoffs are July 14. There is one in Milam County. Pct. 1 Commissioners Richard “Opey” Watkins faces Henry “Hub” Hubnik in the Republican Primary.

Blood Drive June 14th at St. Paul Lutheran
THORNDALE—Baylor Scott & White Blood Center will hold a blood drawing from 8 a.m. to 12-noon Sunday, June 14, at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Thorndale.
Donors will receive a “Toucan Too” T-shirt.
A photo ID is required to donate. Donors 18 and young are required to show proof of age.
Donors may check in for appointments in the school gym.
Bulk waste collection June 20 in Thorndale
THORNDALE—The City of Thorndale’s trash contractor, Waste Connections of Texas, will hold a bulk waste pickup day for customers from 8 a.m. to 12-noon Saturday.
Items including old furniture, mattresses and household appliances may be placed at the curb for pickup. Items must not weigh more than 50 pounds.
Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must be tagged to certify coolant removal.
Tires, paint, items with liquids or any unbagged loose items/debris not bagged, tied or bundled will not be collected.
Republican conventions Saturday in Cameron
CAMERON—COVID-19-delayed Republican precinct and county conventions will be held Saturday in the Williams Center, according to County Chair Bill Whitmire.
He said precinct conventions begin at 9 a.m. with the county convention beginning about an hour after the final precinct convention ends.
Whitmire said at the county convention Republican will select 11 delegates and 11 alternates to attend the state convention in July in San Antonio.
Railroad museum sets re-opening next week
CAMERON—Milam County railroad Museum/Old Town Cameron’s “limited reopening” begins June 9, 11 and 13, hours 1 to 4 p.m.
“Only six guests at a time and masks must be worn,” spokesman Jamie Larson said. “We may pause occasionally for cleaning.”
