Blood Drive June 14th at St. Paul Lutheran
THORNDALE—Baylor Scott & White Blood Center will hold a blood drawing from 8 a.m. to 12-noon Sunday, June 14, at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Thorndale.
Donors will receive a “Toucan Too” T-shirt.
A photo ID is required to donate. Donors 18 and younger are required to show proof of age.
Donors may check in for appointments in the school gym.
Ruelas Blood Drive June 19 at KC Hall
The seventh annual Naomi Ruelas Memorial Blood Drive is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 19 at the KC Hall.
Ruelas, a Rockdale resident, died in 2013 from a rare blood disease.

CAMERON—The Milam County Republican Party precinct and county conventions were held Saturday with the following delegates and alternates elected to the state convention in Houston July 16-18:

Juneteenth called off due to C-19 pandemic
Rockdale’s Juneteenth celebration has become the latest local event to be canceled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In past years it has been held on the Saturday before the actual date—June 19— and has included a parade, music, food and other festivities in the Sumuel Park area.
RCS Food Pantry lists its schedule for June
Here is the June schedule for the Rockdale Christian Services Food Pantry, according to Pam Warren, RCS president:
• Second Thursday and Friday, June 11, 12.
• Fourth Thursday and Friday, June 25, 26.
Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 12-noon.

Bulk waste collection June 20 in Thorndale
THORNDALE—The City of Thorndale’s trash contractor, Waste Connections of Texas, will hold a bulk waste pickup day for customers from 8 a.m. to 12-noon Saturday.
Items including old furniture, mattresses and household appliances may be placed at the curb for pickup. Items must not weigh more than 50 pounds.
Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must be tagged to certify coolant removal.
Tires, paint, items with liquids or any loose items/ debris not bagged, tied or bundled will not be collected.
Commissioners eyeing bids on former hospital
CAMERON—Milam County commissioners met Monday in regular session, preparatory to a bid opening on plans for the former Little River-Cameron Hospital.
The county is mulling moving a number of county offices from downtown Cameron into the former hospital.
The county hosted a walkthrough of the complex on Thursday, attended by five general contractors and about 20 sub-contractors.
Renovation bids are due June 19 and will be opened June 22.
Commissioners also approve a resolution for a Texas Water Development Board grant and okayed an agreement to provide a new printer and fax machine for the Milam County Tax Office Rockdale Sub-Station.
Commissioners tabled items on streaming their meetings live on Facebook and repairs to flooring on the Little River Bridge walkway at Sugarloaf Mountain.
Milam AD office now open for business
CAMERON—The Milam Appraisal District (AD) in Cameron re-opened for business on Monday, according to Chief Appraiser Dyann White.
Hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Due to the COVID-19 situation a maximum of two people will be allowed in the lobby,” White said.
“Our staff had been in the office each day, assisting property owners by phone,” she said. The phone system will remain open during public hours.”
White said the public is encouraged to contact the office by phone.
“Public (appraisal appeal) hearings are not scheduled at this time,” she said. “We expect them to begin in late June or early July.”
Fire calls listed for area volunteer departments
Fire calls dispatched to South Milam County VFDs from the Rockdale Police Department during the past week included the following:
• 2:01 p.m. Thursday, electric pole on fire, 400 block of West US 79 in Rockdale, Rockdale VFD and Oncor Electric.
• 10:41 p.m. Friday, van on fire, Los Robles Mobile Home Park, East US 79.
• 4:28 p.m., Sunday, tractor, hay bale and field fire, CR 458A, Thorndale VFD.
• 12:06 p.m. Monday, pasture fire, 1400 block of CR 458A, Thorndale VFD.
Vehicles report damage in gravel truck incident
Several vehicles were damaged in connection with an incident involving a gravel truck at 8:31 a.m. Thursday south of Milano, according to State Trooper Zachary Martinez.
He said the truck, operated by Ruston Perkins of Franklin had lost part of its load of gravel and was then in collision with another truck operated by Darrell Gashette of Humble.
Damages were reported moderate by the trooper, who said there were no injuries. He reported several vehicles damaged by the gravel.
Location was Texas 36 near County Road 342.
Moderate damages were reported in a two-vehicle collision at 2:33 p.m. June 2 at Texas 36 and US 79 in Milano.
Drivers were listed as Ronald Testerman III of College Station and Alicia Sermon of Houston.
Pack Pals, church set food distributions
Crossroads Bible Church, in collaboration with Pack Pals, will begin distributing meals every Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, while supplies last.
Families will receive a week’s worth of meals for each child in the family.
The church is located at 811 Burleson in Rockdale. “Come around the circle at the end of the road and someone will bring the meals to your car,” spokesperson Pam Kaufmann said.
