Ex-caseworker pleads ‘not guilty’ to minor sex

NEW BOSTON—A former caseworker accused of sexually assaulting a teen she had supervised at a juvenile facility has pleaded not guilty on all charges.

According to a report by KTAL-TV, Texarkana-Shreveport, 26-yearold Jessica Pratt is charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child.

According to an arrest affidavit, the incidents occurred at a relative’s home in Hooks, Texas.

The arrest affidavit says an officer with the Pittsburg Police Department was contacted by a Titus/Camp County Juvenile probation officer who told him that a teen on her case was having a “relationship” with his caseworker at Rockdale Youth Academy.

Little River incident termed ‘drowning’

Sheriff Chris White said the body of a 58-year-old man was recovered Friday afternoon from the Little River at Bryant Station Bridge.

White said he believed the death of Sammy Salazar was due to “accidental drowning.”

Justice of the Peace Greg Hoelscher performed the inquest and an autopsy was ordered at the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in Austin.

MDD boosts assistance program to $20,000

The Rockdale Municipal Development District, meeting in regular session Monday at the MDD Headquarters increased the eligible grant amount for its facade improvement from $10,000 to $20,000.

The MDD board also okayed changing the area covered for businesses applying for such grants from the entire city and extraterritorial jurisdiction to business owners and tenant/business owners of properties located within the downtown district and US 79 frontage within the City of Rockdale.

Legion slates gift card giveaway for Aug. 15th

American Legion Carlyle Post 358 has rescheduled an Academy Gift Card Fund Raiser—postponed from May 16 due to COVID-19, to Aug. 15.

Separate donation tickets will be drawn for each of four gift cards, valued at $400, $300 and two drawing for $200.

According to the Legion, tickets already sold for the May 16 drawing will be included. Donors need not be present to win.

St. Paul Lutheran School making 2020-21 plans

THORNDALE—St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale is planning the 2020-21 school year and changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. David Mueller, school principal, told The Reporter school personnel will meet Monday to finalize plans and will then contact parents.

He said some parents have told school personnel they prefer to keep students at home and Dr. Mueller said St. Paul’s will have a program of online “synchronous learning.”

Under synchronous learning students and teachers interact in real time with live, scheduled interactive classes, teacher-supported work time and online tests.

Dr. Mueller said the first day of classes is Aug. 12.
