CTFB visit set Thursday at KC Hall parking lot

The first Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) Mobile Food Pantry distribution of August in the KC Hall parking lot will be held on Thursday, according to Rockdale Christian Services Chair Pam Warren.

Distributions are held the first and third Thursdays of each month. Hours are 9 to 11 a.m.

“As with previous distributions, this will be a drive-through model with the clients remaining in their vehicles to maintain social distancing,” she said.

Volunteer helpers must wear masks.

Warren said there would be no public restrooms available at Thursday’s distribution.

Schedules listed for food pantry and thrift shop

August schedules for the Rockdale Christian Services Food Pantry and Heavenly Treasures thrift shop have been announced, according to Pam Warren, RCS chair.

The food pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to 12-noon on Thursday Aug. 13 and Friday, Aug. 27.

She said clients may pick up their commodity boxes on either of those days.

“Distribution will continue as a walk-up model,” she said. “Clients are not permitted in the building.”

Warren said RCS does not have the volunteer staff to assist clients with placing food in vehicles.

“We do, however, provide a cart, so if you need help in getting food to your car, please bring someone with you.

THRIFT SHOP-The Heavenly Treasures thrift shop will be open every Tuesday and Wednesday in August from 9 a.m. to 12-noon.

Legion slates gift card giveaway for Aug. 15th

American Legion Carlyle Post 358 has rescheduled an Academy Gift Card Fund Raiser—postponed from May 16 due to COVID-19— to Aug. 15.

Separate donation tickets will be drawn for each of four gift cards, valued at $400, $300 and two drawing for $200.

Donation tickets are available from Post 358 members or at 254-482-0834 or 408472-5272.

According to the Legion, tickets already sold for the May 16 drawing will be included. Donors need not be present to win.

Blood drive scheduled for Aug. 16 at St. Paul’s

THORNDALE—A Baylor Scott & White blood drive is set for 8 a.m. to 12-noon Sunday Aug. 16, at St. Paul Lutheran Church & School.

Two injured in area crashes during week

Two persons were taken to an area hospital following separate highway accidents last week, according to the Department of Public Safety:

• Friday, FM 908 near County Road 316; motorcyclist Christopher Lattrell, 45, of Brenham taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital, Temple. No damage report available on motorcycle.

• Friday, 1:15 p.m. US 79 west of County Road 338; one-vehicle accident, Jimmy Mills of Dale taken to Scott & White. Vehicle damage termed “extensive.”

Non-injury accidents for listed as follows:

• July 27, 10:26 p.m., US 79 near County Road 334; driver, Robert Wright Jr. of New Braunfels, moderate damages, hit two cows.

• July 29, 5:30 p.m., FM 486 near Fm 487, driver Eduardo Moreno, 27, of Cameron, moderate damages.

Thorndale council okays contributions

THORNDALE—The Thorndale City Council, meeting last week in regular session, agreed to award COVID-19 funds to three entities.

Funds will go to St. Paul Lutheran School, Country Meadows Clinic and Milam County.

Funds are to compensate the school for supplies needed tand to assist the entities with testing residents for COVID-19.
