Commissioners planning free countywide cleanup for Milam’s citizens
Body

Your Milam County Commissioners Court is working on an agreement to have a free county wide cleanup.

There are two components to the plan:

• If there is a large amount of trash, such as old tires, shingles or house debris including old furniture on your place, we will come pick it up and haul it off; and/or

• For smaller amounts of trash, such as old tires, shingles and/or house debris, one can bring the trash to one of several dumpsters that will be located throughout the county.

This will all be done for any Milam County citizen, free of charge.

This does not include common household garbage.

Thus, if you have a large amount of debris that needs to be cleaned up and you can’t do it, let us know.

We will come out, take pictures to document the debris and then get an estimate of what the clean-up will cost.

Once, we have the amount approved, we will do the clean-up. The dumpsters will be free as well.

What a great opportunity to clean up unsightly debris on your place and around your house.

Your Milam County Commissioners Court is working on a grant to pay for the clean-up.

On Monday the court heard from Katherine Norris, a grant writer who has agreed to help with a cleanup grant application.

There is no “matching fund” component to the grant, so the county will not have to put up any “matching” funds.

We are not yet sure of the dates for the clean-up, but it is coming soon, maybe in April. Now is the time to look around to see what needs to be cleaned up.

It will take a little time to document the debris and get the estimate for clean-up, so let us know what it is and where it is, and we will get started on the process.

As we get the plan finalized, we will let you know who to call and where the dumpsters will be located.

So, come on and help clean up our beautiful county.

Let’s make it look nice for ourselves, our neighbors and for those who are coming here for the first time. A nice first impression is hard to beat.
