The previous owners of a small bowl may have thought they were lucky to have gotten $35 for the thing at their yard sale last in New Haven, Conn.

But, the Association of Mature American Citizens says, the anonymous buyer was delighted last month when he sold what turned out to be an rare piece of pottery.

The piece sold for more than $700,000 at an auction.

The 600-year-old bowl was one of the headline lots at Sotheby’s Important Chinese Art sale in New York on March 18. Dating back to the Yongle court of the Ming Dynasty, which lasted from 1403 to 1424.
