Town & Country Club meeting held in Salty
The Thorndale Town & Country Club met at the Salty Community home of Darleen Tucker with eight club members present and two guests. The home was decorated throughout in a patriotic red, white and blue theme. Games of Left/Right/Center were played with winners collecting the prize of quarters. Members were also given gifts of picture frames and small spiral binders.
A short business meeting followed the recreation where the club decided to support the Down Home Ranch with a monetary gift and also donated to the Salty Cemetery in memory of long-time club member, Mildred Weise, who passed away recently.
The club members were also invited to the Pleasant Retreat Church event on Saturday, July 30 at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Rachael Norris of Bryan. A potluck meal will held with guests encouraged to bring an item to share and/or a dessert. Guest are welcome.
In keeping with the patriotic theme of the meeting, Darleen shared photos of her dad who was a pilot in World War II. She also shared photos of herself that her mom sent to her dad while he was stationed in England. A shadow box made by her brother with their dad’s photo and replicas of all the medals he had won during the war was viewed by the members.
In addition, she shared photos of her brother who was a helicopter pilot in the Army during Vietnam and later was Army Corps commander at Texas A&M. She encouraged the club members to share any stories of their family who served in the armed forces and were part the effort to keep America the land of the free. One member shared that her husband was a mechanic in the Air Force. Another member’s husband was in the ground forces in Vietnam. Another said her dad taught weather to pilots in World War II. Patriots all!
