The Thorndale Town & Country Club met at the Thorndale country home of Paula Johnson on March 9. A short business meeting followed the bingo recreation where the club sent cards to community members in need of support. Various upcoming events were discussed including a trip to Down Home Ranch and suppor ting Milam Touch of Love by making dog blankets for their clients.
For her demonstration, Paula shared several ways denim could be recycled such as a denim wreath, two denim bears, denim place mats, and a denim covered dresser bench. She also showed two denim jackets she had enhanced with rhinestone pins. In addition, she noted that the material known as denim was invented by Levi Straus and in 1873 Jacob Davis invented the rivets used on the sturdy pants for the gold miners in California.
The Town & Country Club meets once a month and is a service club that tries to support the community of Thorndale with various activities during the year. If anyone is interested in joining the club and helping with our service projects, you are invited to attend the next meeting. Please call Paula Johnson at 512-898-2863 or Darleen Tucker at 512-29-9089 for more information.
