Historical Society seeks quilts for May 4 exhibit
The Rockdale Historical Society will host a quilt exhibit May 4 at the I&GN Historical Depot and is seeking quilts to display.

Cancer Society hosting washers twice-a-month
The American Cancer Society continues to host twice-monthly washer tourneys at Apache Pass.
Tournaments are the second and fourth Sundays of the month, spokesperson Kim Jeter said.
Next tourney will be next Sunday, March 24, followed by April 14 and 28, May 12 and 26, June 9 and 23, July 14 and 28, Aug. 11 and 25, Sept. 8 and 22, Oct. 13 and 27, Nov. 10 and 24 and Dec 15. (Only one tourney is in December).
“Teams can start signing up at 4:30 and we usually start the tournament by 5:30,” Jeter said. Registration is $20 per team, double elimination, with prizes awarded to places 1-3.
She noted the second Sunday is “bring your partner” and the fourth Sunday “draw your partner.”
Genealogical Society sets Tuesday meeting
The Milam County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa, Rockdale.
Its new handicap access entrance to the church is adjacent to the Palmer Street entrance to the parking lot.
Jack Brooks is in charge of the program.
Members with surnames beginning with A through O will be in charge of refreshments. Ice, drinks and paper goods will be provided. All members are encouraged to attend. Visitors are always welcome.—Linda Whorton, publicity
American Legion lists 2019 officer candidates
American Legion Carlyle Post 358 is conducting an officer election April 1.
James McKimmey, post commander, said nominations were made March 4 but members may still nominate up to the April 1 meeting.
He said vote will be by ballot and members must present 2019 membership cards in order to vote.
McKimmey said anyone unable to attend the April 1 meeting, who still wants to vote, should contact the post commander at 254-482-0834 by Monday, March 25.
