reschedules meeting

Because of the Labor Day holiday, American Legion Carlyle Post 358 will have its September meeting on Monday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.

Coffee, soft drinks and cookies will be available for veterans attending the meeting.

Business meeting

set for Sept. 21

Murray Cemetery Association annual business meeting will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10-11 a.m. at the Perry Community Room, 109 N. Main, Rockdale.

An appetizer social will follow. Plates, napkins, utensils, cups, ice, and beverages will be provided by the association and members can bring their favorite appetizer to share.

discuss Alzheimers

Caregivers Support

Group meets Thursday,

Aug. 29 at St. Joseph’s

education classroom, 234 San Gabriel in Rockdale.

The group run by Debby Currey can answer people’s questions about: Alzheimer’s disease related disorders; the diagnosis and working with a physician; how to plan for the future; education and support programs in the community and local service providers and attorneys.

The group, which has been meeting for the last three months, will meet the last Thursday of every month.

Early stage support and services which include behavior management and safety issues will also be discussed.

Public can help

preserve history

To help preserve the history of the town’s heritage, a local group is seeking stories, photos, press clippings, furniture about the old police station/city hall building.

Geri Burnett, the Save the Old City Hall (STOCH) group spokesperson, said the group “requests and encourages” anyone with photos and/or memories of the building to contact her at 512-446-5057. The group’s aim is to preserve the cultural resources of the city of Rockdale.

“STOCH would like to collect the memories and share them at a later date,” she said.

Historic trail group to meet in Milam

The 41-county trail association El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail (ELCAT) will hold its annual meeting at Apache Pass in Milam County Oct. 11-12.

Special events are being planned for member participants for Oct. 12, according to Steven Gonzales, executive director of the Trail. A bus tour of Apache Pass and the surrounding area is one event planned.

Alcoa retirees slate

meeting for Sept. 12

THORNDALE—The next meeting of Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will be Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Thorndale VFW Hall, according to Doug Williams, organization president.

He said doors will open at 5 p.m. with a short business meeting starting around 5:45.

“The meal will be chicken fried steak,” he said. “Dessert group will be those with last names beginning with M through Z.”

Quilts galore, at 33rd annual quilt show

CALDWELL—The 33rd Annual Quilt Show will have over 100 quilts on display Sept. 13-14 at the Caldwell Civic Center, 103 Texas 21, Caldwell, TX 77836.

There will be quilt binding, embroidery, paper piercing, fabric cutter machine and many other demonstrations at the show. There will also be a large selection of fabrics, crafts, pattern books and quilted items for sale.

Donations for the quilt fundraiser are $1 per ticket or $5 for six tickets.
