Cemetery associations to meet September 1

Murray Cemetery Association annual business meeting will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10-11 a.m. at the Perry Community Room, 109 N. Main, Rock-dale.

An appetizer social will follow. Plates, napkins, utensils, cups, ice, and beverages will be provided by the association and members can bring their favorite appetizer to share.

Community club meets to plan Founder’s Day

GA SE—The Gause Community Improvement Program is sponsoring their annual Gause Founder’s Day activities on Sat. Sept. 12.

Proceeds from this fund-raiser will go to the upkeep of the Gause Community Center. They also give two scholarships to Gause seniors graduating from area schools.

The community center is utilized for meetings of health and education, and for the Austin Central Texas Food Bank Distribution.

They sponsor senior meals once a week, The Gause Water Board Meeting, Gause Schools Alumni Association, Peaceful Rest Cemetery Association, family get-togethers, exercise and wellness programs, and serve as shelter for evacuates.

It is also a place for families to rest, eat and relax after funeral services. They also sponsor a Community Christmas Dinner the first Saturday in December as well as many other activities.

Center holding election for board trustee

MINERVA–The Minerva Community Center will hold its annual meeting on Monday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the community center. Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend, according to organizers. The agenda will cover old and new business as well as the election of a trustee.

handling grief planned

GriefShare is holding a 13 week seminar presented by Malda Burns at Meadow-brook Baptist Church, 1401 Colorado, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. starting on Monday, Sept. 16.

Restoration organiz ation needs public input

To help preserve the history of the town’s heritage, a local group is seeking stories, photos, press clippings, furniture about the old police station/city hall building.

Geri Burnett, the Save the Old City Hall (STOCH) group spokesperson, said the group “ requests and encourages” anyone with photos and/or memories of the building to contact her at 512-446-5057. The group’s aim is to preserve the cultural resources of the city of Rockdale.

“ STOCH would like to collect the memories and share them at a later date,” she said.

Retired teacher group to host movie night

The Milam County Retired School Personnel Association is sponsoring a movie night at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kay Theater.

The movie is going to be “ The Man Who Knew Too Much” with James Stewart and Doris Day, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

A special invitation is extended to all Milam County retired and active school personnel.
