Sharp cemetery business meeting to be held Saturday

The Sharp Cemetery Association will hold its annual business meeting Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. at the Sharp Presbyterian Church annex on North FM 487. For more information contact Mollie Modesette at 512-964-5547.

Lawrence Chapel chili dinner set for Saturday

The annual Lawrence Chili Supper will be held on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. at the Lawrence Chapel Fellowship Hall. Hot dogs are also on the menu.

Attendees are asked to bring items for a silent auction including cakes, pies, cookies, brownies and homemade ice cream to be sold during the auction.

“Volunteers are welcome and appreciated,” said Billy Hafernik, president.

Donations will be used to maintain the cemetery, church and fellowship hall grounds.

Rice Cemetery meeting Oct. 19

The 44th annual Rice Cemetery Associates and Foundation meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the cemetery on County Road 241.

Music Club holding dessert fundraiser

Matinee Music Club of Rockdale will hold its “dessert of the month” fund-raiser with all proceeds going to the Louise Hale Sessions Memorial Scholarship Fun. The winner receives one homemade dessert every month for a year, with the winner selecting a delivery date starting in November 2019.

The drawing will be held Nov. 1 at the library’s First Friday Coffee, and the winner need not be present to win.

Tickets are available from any Matinee Music Club member and at the front desk of the Lucy Hill Patterson Library. Purchase one ticket chance for $5 or five tickets for $20.

El Camino Real tour slated for Saturday

Fifty members of the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association will be in Milam County Friday and Saturday for an annual membership meeting.

The gathering involves Saturday s of sites not usually open to the public, including the Rancheria Grande and million sites.

This year’s meeting is dedicated to the memory of th late Rockdale historian Joy Graham, who was instrumental, along with Dr. Lucile Estell of Rockdale, with generating interest in the trail.
