Surviving the holidays seminar set for Nov. 7th
GriefShare coordinator Malda Burns is offering a seminar on surviving the holidays after a loved one’s death on Nov. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
Registration fee is $5. Child care will not be available.
The seminar features video interviews with counselors, grief experts and other people who have experienced the holidays after their loved one’s death and who offer practical suggestions and reassurances.
Attendees will receive a survival guide with practical tips, encouraging words, journaling ideas and exercises for daily help throughout the holidays.

La Escuelita 17th
annual fall cookoff
La Escuelita’s 17th annual Fall Cook-Off will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., located east of the KC Hall on Hwy 79.
First and second place winners will receive cash prizes for entries in the menudo, chili and bean categories.
This family-friendly event offers a bounce house, music and booths selling homemade arts and crafts.

Depot Museum holds
annual chili benefit
The Rockdale IG&N Museum will have its chili dinner benefit on Sat., Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with homemade chili and desserts for $10.
There will also be live entertainment and a silent auction.
Oak Club hosts second annual benefit cookoff
On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Oak Club will host a bean and chili cookoff benefiting the American Cancer Society. Registration begins at 10 a.m.
Entry fees are $20 for chili and $10 for beans.
The rules are: entries must be prepared on site, and no beans are allowed in the chili.

VFW Post 6525 hosts
Veteran’s Day breakfast
VFW Post 6525 will host their annual free Veteran’s Day breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The public is invited to attend.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 and auxiliary hold meetings on the first Tuesdays of every month at 7 p.m.
Caregivers Support
Group meets Thursday
The Caregivers Support Group meets on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
This group is for anyone assisting another with care at home or in a facility. Handouts and other resources will be available.
Matinee Musical Club
The Matinee Musical Club met on Oct. 21 at the First Presbyterian Church. Hosts were Mary Jane Boyd and Tami Stockton.
The club members voted to sponsor a movie at the Kay theatre and to host a First Friday coffee at the library in May. They also voted to present a program at the library for the MARC Center on Thursday of National Music Week, and to donate $200 to Guitars for Vets.
Victoria Everett St. John presented the program. Performers were Brooklyn Duo, Savana Everett, Victoria Everett and Marie Gest.
The Matinee Musical Club is a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs.
