Master Gardeners set 2019 class schedule

Little River Basin Master Gardener Association (LRBMGA) is opening registration for the 2019 Master Gardener class.

Classes will meet on Wednesdays from Jan. 9 through May 15, from 8:45 a.m. to 12-noon noon, at the Cameron Chamber of Commerce meeting room.

The program offers a minimum of 50 hours of instruction, including field trips. Fee for the class is $175, which includes The Master Gardener Handbook and other amenities.

Speakers are experts in their fields including lawn care, trees and shrubs, disease and weed management, soils, plant nutrition, vegetable and herb gardening, home fruit production, water conservation, and Earth-Kind.

In exchange for training and to become a certified Master Gardener, 50 volunteer hours are required before the end of the calendar year.

Milano Ex-Students set beef stew supper Nov. 9

MILANO— A beef stew supper sponsored by Milano Alumni/Exes Association is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Milano Elementary Cafeteria located at the north end of the football field.

Menu is beef stew, cornbread, tea/coffee and dessert. Prices: Ages 3 to 11, $4; ages 12 and up, $7.

Nov. 9 is Senior Night. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help fund scholarships for graduating Milano High School seniors in the Class of 2019.

Historical Society chili dinner Nov. 10 at depot

The Rockdale Historical Society’s annual chili dinner is set for Saturday, Nov. 10 at the I&GN Historical Depot.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out.

Desserts will be available and there will be a silent auction during the meal.

Music Club starts new dessert fund raiser

The Matinee Musical Club has begun its dessert of the month fund raiser to benefit its annual scholarship.

Donations are $5 for one ticket or $10 for three and are available from any club member or at the city library.

Winner receives a homemade dessert every month for a year.

Heart Association sets fund raiser Thursday

The American Heart Association will hold a Kendra Scott Pop-Up Show as a fund raiser from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Location is CC’s Boutique, 518 West Cameron (US 79).

Kendra’s will bring its fall line.

Twenty percent of profits go to the AHA. Credit/debit cards and checks only will be accepted.

She will provide a form which must be emailed or dropped off at CCs by Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Free Thanksgiving meal set Nov. 10 at Thorndale

THORNDALE—A free Community Thanksgiving Meal will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Thorndale Fireman’s Hall.

American Legion sets garage sale for Saturday

American Legion Carlyle Post 358 will have its Annual Garage Sale Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Post Home at 2534 FM 487.

Clothing, furniture, tools, and household items have been donated with many more items expected.

This year representatives from Child Protective Services, Rock-dale Christian Services, and Central Texas Food Bank will be there.

American Legion plans emergency program

American Legion Carlyle Post 358 invites the public to a presentation on Emergency Preparedness and Ham Radio Operations to be given at the Post Home, 2534 FM 487 at 6 p.m Monday.

Presenters will include American Legion District 11 Homeland Security Chairperson and member of Post 9 in Cameron, Mike McCue, Milam County Emergency Management Coordinator and SW District 7 Emergency Coordinator for ARRL Susan Reinders and member of the Amateur Radio Club in Rockdale, Stewart Wolf.

Visitors are welcome to remain for Post 358’s regular meeting which will immediately follow the presentations.

Christmas Cottage set Friday in Cameron

CAMERON—A Christmas Cottage Craft Fair is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2 at Bea’s Kitchen, 105 E. Main in Cameron.

Officials from the Texas Extension Education Association (TEEA) and the Milam County Extension office, who host the event, said a lunch of stew or baked potatoes will be available for sale to craft fair attendees.
