Master Naturalists set training class

El Camino Real Master naturalists will host training beginning Jan. 16 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Hermit Haus in Cameron on Thursday evenings.

The class is a joint effort of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension program.

“The purpose of the program is to develop a corps of well-informed volunteers who provide education, outreach and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within local communities,” according to Kathy Lester, training coordinator for El Camino Real Master Naturalists.

Classes will include Grasslands and Range Management, Mammals of Texas, Ornithology, Plants and Grasses, and many others.

Milano Lions Club hosts pancake supper

Milano Lions Club will host an all-you-can-eat pancake supper on Sat., Jan. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Milano Civic Center.

There will also be live music, a silent auction and a raffle. Admission is $3 for under 13 years of age; adults $5.

The public is invited.

Health screening set at Patterson Civic Center

Life Line Screening Southwest will hold a one-day community health screening on Thurs., Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Patterson Civic Center.

RHS hosts college readiness work session

Rockdale High School will host a college readiness work session on Jan. 22 from 5-6:30 p.m.

Both students and parents can register for ACT/SAT tests, get scholarship information and begin the application process.

Lions Club hosts soup supper at RJH

A soup supper hosted by the Rockdale Noon Lions Club will be held at the Rock-dale Junior High School on Jan. 23 from 5-7 p.m.

The supper is $8 and includes soup, rolls and cornbread, tea or water and dessert.

RVFD fundraiser set for Jan. 18 at The Ranch

The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department is holding a fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 18, at The Ranch from 8 p.m. to midnight.

The band will be Crash Landing.

There is a $10 cover charge. All door proceeds and tips will go directly to the RVFD.
