Depot Museum closed temporarily for repairs

The Rockdale Historical Society announced that the I&GN Depot Museum will be closed temporarily due to some mechanical issues.

The museum will reopen once these issues are resolved, according to board member Gary Jackson.

Caregivers Support Group meets Thursday

Caregivers Support Group will meet Thursday, Jan. 30, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at 234 San Gabriel to network and affirm each other in the task of providing the best care for a family member or loved one.

Jam session scheduled at Taylor SPJST Hall

Central Texas Pickers will hold a scholarship jam session on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 4-8 p.m. at the Taylor SPJST Hall.

There will be live music and BBQ sandwiches and an auction.

Matinee Musical Club holds January meeting

The Matinee Musical club met on Monday Jan. 20, 20 at 7pm with hosts Marie Gest and Lisa Lowe.

Refreshments were served and guests were welcomed.

The business meeting was called to order and reports were read and approved.

Mona Butala presented the program entitled “Hit Parade of 1909”.

The performers were Donnie Rinn playing “The Entertainer” on the piano. All members sang “Take Me Out to The Ballgame”, “You’re a Grand Old Flag”, “In The Shade of The Old Apple Tree”, “In The Good Old Summertime” all accompanied by Lisa Lowe on the piano.

Members also sang “Shine on Harvest Moon” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” accompanied by Mary Ann Fenske on the piano. Then “Swing Low Sweet Chariot” accompanied by JoAnn Bradford on the piano. Lastly “Abide By Me” was sung by Melissa Shipley accompanied by Lisa Lowe on the piano.

The meeting was closed with everyone singing “The Gift of Song”.

Matinee Musical Club is a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Memorial 42 Tourney in Thorndale Feb. 15

THORNDALE—The 4th Annual Graham Dickerson Memorial 42 Tournament will be held on Feb. 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church in Thorndale.

There will be a drawing for teams and the winning teams will move up and the losing teams can join in on any of the other games.

Other domino, card and board games will be available. Snack, finger foods and drinks will be provided.

Historical group meets

The Milam County Historical Commission’s next meeting will be Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Cameron.
