Local Alcoa Retirees to meet March 12th
The first meeting of the Rockdale Alcoa retirees will be on Thursday, March 12 at 5 p.m. at The Thorndale Memorial Veterans Hall (former VFW Hall).
There will be a short meeting to elect officers at 5:45 p.m. followed by dinner.
Fried catfish will all the trimmings will be offered. Last names A-L are asked to bring dessert.
Annual dues of $10 will be collected and the dinner is $10 per person.

Washer Tourney at Apache Pass, Sundays
Sunday washer tournaments will be held at Apache Pass Ice House starting at 5 p.m.
The schedule will be “Bring a Partner” on the second Sunday, and “Draw a Partner” on the fourth Sunday.
Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. $20 per team, double elimination. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams.

Master Gardeners plant sale March 7, Cameron
Little River Basin Master Gardeners will have their plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 7 at the Youth Expo Center in Cameron.
The focus will be on native plants which require less watering, in addition to all the bedding plants and roses they usually have.
Experts will be on hand to discuss your plant needs along with short educational presentations.
They accept credit, debit, cash, and checks, and will have a limited supply of wagons. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own wagons.
Salty Cemetery Association meets
The Salty Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on March 2 at 7 p.m.
The meeting will take place in the Salty Church Annex.
Matinee Musical Club meeting, report
The Matinee Musical Club met on February 17. The hosts were Donnie Rinn and Leah Thomason. Refreshments were served and guests were welcomed.
The business meeting was called to order and reports were read and approved.
Gloria Walker and Melissa Shipley presented the program entitled “Love is in the Air”. The performers were Lisa Lowe, Marie Gest, Renay Harris Boyd, JoAnn Bradford, Melissa Shipley, Victoria Everett St. John and Mary Ann Fenske.
The meeting closed with everyone singing “The Gift of the Song”.
Matinee Musical Club is a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs.
Crown Garden Club February meeting
The February meeting of the Crown Garden Club was hosted by Patricia McKee at her home and co-hosted by Diana Sousares. Assorted snacks and sweets were served.
Club president, Jimmette Fatheree, reported that the next meeting will be a member plant exchange at the home of Peggy Cooke with Geri Burnett as co-hostess. The April meeting will be a field trip to Earth Scape in Temple.
Master Gardener, Michelle Fletcher announced the annual plant sale and garden give away is at the Youth Expo Center in Cameron on March 7 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will feature native plants suitable to this area, roses, herbs and other plants.
Mrs. McKee presented a program on Peyote and other native Texas plants and shrubs that the Native American Indians used in their rituals and for medicinal purposes.
Door prizes were won by Mrs. Fatheree and Betty Bartlett and birthday gifts were given to Patsy David, Mrs. Sousares and Roberta Pounders who had birthdays in January and February.—Peggy Cooke, reporter
