Retirement celebration for Dr. D.L. Brooks Sr.

New Jerusalem Inter-Denominational Church will hold a celebration for retiring pastor Dr. D. L. Brooks Sr. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10, at the church. Dr. Brooks has served the church for 41 years.

The retirement and appreciation banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, followed by another celebration the following day at 2:30 p.m.

Trail Life open house set for August 30th

Trail Life USA Troop TX-1516 invites all boys ages 5-17 and their fathers to learn about the Trail Life adventure.

The open house will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale.

Springfield Baptist holds BBQ fundraiser

Springfield Missionary Baptist Church will hold a barbecue fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14

Plates with sausage, chicken and brisket with all the trimmings will be available for pickup for $12.

Alcoa Retirees meeting September 9

Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Thorndale Veteran’s Memorial Hall (formerly known as the VFW Hall) at 5 p.m.

A barbecue meal will be served after the meeting. Plates are $15 at the door. Donations for hall rental will be accepted.

Desserts will be brought by last names starting with M through Z.

Rockdale Peace Seekers AA meetings are at Crossroads Bible Church, 811 Burleson St.

The meetings are scheduled on Tuesdays and Sundays at 7:30 p.m.

Milam County Girl Scouts acts of service

Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) are celebrating their centennial, the 100th anniversary of the first Girl Scout troop formed in our area in 1921.

“As part of our centennial celebration, Milam County Girl Scouts has chosen to perform service in Milam County. We are looking to do 100 acts of service in our county. We are providing services for free. It can be for a church, organization, city, individual or group,” said Rachel Owens, Milam County Girl Scouts Service Unit Director.
