Master Gardeners set

2019 class schedule

Little River Basin Master Gardener Association (LRBMGA) is opening registration for the 2019 Master Gardener class.

Classes will meet on Wednesdays from Jan. 9 through May 15, from 8:45 a.m. to 12-noon at the Cameron Chamber of Commerce meeting room.

The program offers a minimum of 50 hours of instruction, including field trips.

Fee for the class is $175, which includes The Master Gardener Handbook and other amenities.

Speakers are experts in their fields including lawn care, trees and shrubs, disease and weed management, soils, plant nutrition, vegetable and herb gardening, home fruit production, water conservation, and Earth-Kind.

In exchange for training and to become a certified Master Gardener, 50 volunteer hours are required before the end of the calendar year.

Alcoa Retirees slate

Christmas meeting

Next meeting of the Rockdale Alcoa Retirees will be the annual Christmas get-together Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Thorndale VFW Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Retirees are reminded to bring canned goods to be donated to area food banks.

Genealogical Society

slates Christmas party

The Milam County Genealogical Society invites members and guests to its annual Christmas Social Tuesday, Dec 11, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Location is the home of Patricia McKee, 2009 Skyles.

Historical Commission sets Monday meeting

CAMERON—Next meeting of the Milam County Historical Commission will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Milam County Historical Museum In Cameron.

Spokesperson Beth Brooks said all persons are invited to attend the meeting.

Only one ACS washer

tourney in December

There will only be one American Cancer Society washer tourney at Apache Pass in December.

The tourneys are usually held twice a month, on the second and forth Sundays, but there will only be one this month, according to Kim Jeter, spokesperson.

“We are having it only on the third Sunday because of the Christmas holiday,” she said.

The tourneys will go back to their twice-a-month schedule on the second and fourth Sundays in January, Jeter said.

FFA poinsettias still

on sale for the holidays

Friends for FFA still has holiday poinsettias for sale.

Mandy Jenkins, spokesperson, said the plants are $12 each and several are still available for purchase.

“We have both red and white,” she said.

All proceeds go to benefit Rockdale Future Farmers of America.
