A 32-year-old Missouri man, wanted in connection with a robbery in that state, surrendered to the Milam County Sheriff’s department at a rural home near Rock-dale before dawn Thursday after an all-night manhunt.
Nathaniel Terry of Vandalia, Missouri, was arrested about 4:45 a.m. at an FM 1712 residence where he had walked after spending the night under a tree, according to Sheriff Chris White.
The next day 32-year-old Kristian Buegelerdescribed by searchers as Terry’s girlfriend—was arrested in the Cameron area and charged with numerous offenses including accessory to robbery.
PIT—The hectic evening and night began when the Calloway County Sheriff’s Department in Fulton, MO, contacted the Milam County Sheriff’s Department and advised them Terry and Buegeler were believed to be in the area, where Buegeler has relatives.
“We got a description of the vehicle he was believed to be in,” Sheriff Chris White said. “About 5:40 p.m. Sgt. Sam Ferguson located the vehicle, a Ford Mustang GT, on US 77 and gave chase.”
White said the suspect turned down a private road across US 77 from CR 230.
“He apparently did not know it was a private road instead of a county road until he crossed a cattle guard,” White said. “He went into the middle of a field with the patrol car still in pursuit.”
White said the deputy twice unsuccessfully attempted a pit maneuver, then became “high centered” as the suspect fled.
HELP—The sheriff’s department used a drone, a helicopter from the Department of Public Safety and called in K-9 units from Williamson County.
The Mustang was found, abandoned, by Deputy Juan Paniagua, at the end of dead-end County Road 301, White said.
“We were out there looking for him for about four and a half hours, until about 10:30 p.m.,” White said.
The sheriff said the department set up a perimeter just north of Rockdale, with boundaries roughly of CR 300, CR 335 and US 77. Deputies patrolled the area throughout the rest of the night.
ARREST—The pursuit came to an end just before 5 a.m.
“We received a 911 call from a resident in the 4300 block of FM 1712,” White said. “She advised us a man came to the door, at first telling that he’d had a flat tire, then later admitting he was the one everybody had been looking for.”
The department responded and made the arrest without incident.
White said it was reported that Terry had previously used a .38-caliber pistol but a weapon was not recovered.
“He confessed, said he was under a tree that night and he finally just walked away and came up on a house. Being hidden under a tree would explain why the helicopter and drone were unable to locate him.”
SECOND ARREST—
White told The Reporter the over night hunt did not involve an emphasis on Buegeler but that she was being sought.
That search came to an end the next morning on County Road 215 near Cameron.
Multiple charges were filed against both suspects.
Terry was charged with out-of-county robbery, attempted robbery and parole violation.
Buegeler was charged with two counts of burglary (more than $750), possession of controlled substance, forgery, assault, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia; out-of-county charges, burglary (more than $750), possession of controlled substance, forgery, assault, property damage (second or more), accessory to robbery, failure to appear, and accessory to attempted robbery.
Both were being held without bond.
