Santa’s coming to town Dec.14
Body

Don’t come to Rockdale’s Christmas Parade Saturday.

That’s because it isn’t Saturday. In 2019, it’s one week later on Dec. 14.

Denise Brock, office staffer for the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center, which sponsors the event, said the parade, and other activities throughout the day, were moved back one week to avoid c0nflict with other activities occurring this Saturday in the area.

For decades Rockdale’s parade and Santa Party have been held on the first Saturday of December.

SCHEDULE—The lighted night parade will again form in the Fair Park area and proceed north of Wilcox to Cameron Avenue (US 79), head east down the highway and end at Green Street.

It will begin at 6 p.m.

BREAKFAST—Dec. 14 begins at 7:30 a.m. with the annual Breakfast With Santa in the Patterson Civic Center, an event co-sponsored by the Chamber and McDonald’s.

Children will get to eat breakfast and visit with Santa. The events lasts until 10 a.m.

AFTERNOON—The focus changes to the I&GN Historical Depot-Wolf Park area for the rest of the day.

The depot will be open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Santa will be at the depot to hear children’s Christmas wishes before the parade and then will ride in the parade.

Events around the depot will include a story time for children and the restored caboose will be open.

There will be vendor and food booths along North Main by the park.

Rockdale’s Communities in Concert Band will play at the Wolf Park pavilion from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

After the parade, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. there will be voting for the People’s Choice Float Award, also at Wolf Park.

Winner will receive a $250 cash award, sponsored by Miller-Starnes Chevrolet-Buick. Parade awards will be presented from 8 to 8:30 p.m.

The Light of the World Choir will carol in the park from 6:30 to 7:30.

BAZAAR, CRAFTS—

Another Rockdale tradition will continue this Saturday, however.

The annual St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Ladies Altar Society Christmas bazaar is set for 9 a.m. until sold out Saturday at the church.

It will feature a fundraiser drawing, baked goods, chicken stew, chili, and door prizes.

Fundraiser tickets can be purchased from any lady of the society.

The society said any donations of baked goods or arts and crafts will be greatly appreciated.

Contact the church office at 512-446-2049 as to where to drop off donations.

Also, Rockdale First Assembly of God Church is hosting a craft fair on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Chili meals are $5 each.

Booth space is available for $25. Contact Gordene Townson 832-801-6984 or Laura Love 512-429-2821 for vendor booth information.
