A 45-year-olf Granger man died last Wednesday night when he was struck by a pickup while walking along US 77 about one mile south of Rockdale.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Shane Sturgill was pronounced dead at the scene near County Road 322.
Driver of the vehicle, a 2017 Dodge pickup, was listed as 53-year-old Raymond Burns Jr. of Lincoln.
The DPS said the pedestrian was walking in the highway’s southbound lane when he was struck by the southbound pickup at 10:19 p.m.
Troopers said Burns was not injured and there were no major damages to the pickup.
Rockdale volunteer firefighters and police, an AMR ambulance crew and the Milam County Sheriff’s Department also responded.
The DPS reminded pedestrians of the danger of walking on or near a roadway and said those doing so should wear light-colored clothing and take caution.
