Supported through contributions and memorials to the Thursday Reading Club, the Bootsie Peebles Memorial Scholarship has a 53-year history of helping students achieve success in the medical field.
“The scholarship was instituted in 1969, and as of this year has helped 53 students pursue an education related to medicine. Those who received scholarships include five doctors, 22 RNs and LVNs, a radiologist, two pharmacists, a dental assistant, dental technician, paramedic, three instructors, a clinical psychologist, dentist, physician’s assistant, occupational therapist and physical therapist,” said scholarship committee member Peggy Cooke.
Application forms are available to high school seniors and adults in the community pursuing an education in a field related to medicine and may be picked up at The Rockdale Reporter or high school counselors’ offices in Rockdale, Thorndale and Milano.
