Sheriff Chris White has warned Milam County residents of an active phone scam from a person claiming to be a deputy sheriff.
White said a Milam resident reported a call from an individual who said the intended victim had failed to show up for Judge Dave Barkemeyer’s Milam County Court session.
“The caller, pretending to be my deputy, then advised them to send money for a fine,” White said.
The sheriff warned all Milam residents, especially senior citizens, if they should receive a similar call from anyone claiming to be a deputy sheriff or IRS agent, to not be taken in.
“Do not send them money. It is a scam,” White said.
He said anyone getting such a call should call the Milam County Sheriff’s Department at 254-697-7033.
NO PCH—In a separate incident, The Reporter was advised a local resident received a call from someone who identified themselves as The Reporter’s editor, told the caller she had won the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes and must send a fee to claim a prize.
The Reporter is not in any way affiliated with Publisher’s Clearing House.
