A Gause man pleaded guilty recently to possessing a prohibited weapon, a plea which also ended a homicide case.
Eddie Wayne Wright drew five years deferred adjudication in 20th District Court.
Prosecutor Bill Torrey told The Reporter that while the press release sent out last week on court action referenced only the weapons charge the plea also brought an end to a case involving the death of 37-year-old Gladys Drones of Cameron on Sept. 12, 2017, at Wright’s residence in Gause.
Torrey said that while Wright pleaded guilty to the weapons charge, the charge of criminally negligent homicide, for which he was arrested, and later indicted, was “subsumed into it.”
Torrey said the legal maneuver was under Section 12:45 of the Texas Penal Code which permits a person during a sentencing hearing to admit guilt of one or more unadjudicated offenses.
It was alleged Wright observed Drones was having a breathing problem but waited 15 minutes before calling 911 or summoning medical aid.
Sheriff’s deputies investigated the incident and filed the original charge.
