POLICE REPORT
The new Rockdale Police Station has only been open a few months but its history already includes one of the strangest arrests in department history.
Lt. Stephen Goodrich said police received a report of an erratically behaving man at Gill’s convenience store across the San Gabriel Street from the PD’s vehicle yard.
“He was trying to break through the glass windows,” Goodrich said. “He also began to strip off his clothes. When we opened the gates to respond he ran through them into the PD property and pretty much told us what he thought of us.”
Goodrich said the man was also a suspect in throwing rocks over the fence into the police yard.
“Nothing was damaged however,” he said. “We, obviously suspect he was under the influence of some substance.”
Darnell Benson Jr., was arrested for terroristic threat and interrupting public place. He was released after posting $3,000 bond.
CHASES—A suspect Goodrich said eluded officers in a chase that went all the way to Milano was arrested by another agency during the week.
Goodrich said Eric Garcia, 36, of Rockdale was returned from the Montgomery County Jail by two Rockdale officers to face a charge of evading arrest/ detention.
Another chase ended in an arrest, this one on Friday.
Goodrich said a 34-year-old Rockdale man was apprehended on south FM 908 after a vehicle chase.
David Campbell was charged with evading arrest/ detention, criminal trespass and possession of marijuana (less than two ounces).
ACCIDENT—There was one accident reported inside the Rockdale city limits during the past week.
That occurred in the parking lot of Rockdale Junior-High School at 8:02 a.m. Thursday.
Drivers were listed as Ariohan Lewis and Veronica Vega, both of Rockdale. Damages were termed minor.
CITATIONS—Police issued 31 citations during the week including 22 for speeding.
SERVICE CALLS—Officers responded to 172 calls for service during the past week and there were 88 calls received through 911.
