The board of directors of the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District voted unanimously to re-elect the current slate of officers at their meeting on Jan. 10. Ward Roddam will continue as president, Jay Wilder as vice-president and Tommy Tietjen as secretary/ treasurer.
The board reviewed the new Driller Guidance Document for drilling wells in our district. The purpose of this document is to provide landowners and drillers recommendations in determining well depths for each aquifer, pump and screen depths and Groundwater Well Assistance Program (GWAP) eligibility requirements. This will help to prevent the construction of wells that may be affected by regional pumping. This document can be found on their website.
Since 2020, POSGCD has provided financial assistance to well owners in Milam and Burleson Counties to lower pumps in 98 wells so that the pumps could continue to produce water for the next few decades. Thus far, POSGCD has covered 100% of the costs to lower the pumps. POSGCD also coordinates the fieldwork with an appropriate drilling firm and supervises the lowering of the pump, reassembly of the pump system and testing of the pump system. The depths to which pumps are lowered are based primarily on POSGCD’s most recent predictions of water levels for the next 50 years.
Hyd rolog i s t S t e ve Young, from Intera, provided an update on the GWAP Annual Needs Asse ssment (GANA). This information allows the board to make better predictions for planning by identifying wells that may be affected and require assistance from the GWAP. Currently, the District has $601,832.66 committed to use for the GWAP for 2023.
The board also received a report and recommendations from the Building Committee to move forward with Goodwin-Lasiter- Strong for a Professional Architect/Engineering and Service Agreement for Architectural/Engineering and Construction Phase Services for the new POSGCD offices, education and meeting center.
