Power outage in city from thunderstorm

Much of Rockdale woke up in the dark Wednesday morning.

A post-midnight thunderstorm rumbled through town in several waves overnight and knocked out power for a large area of the city.

Power was off west of the downtown area, along US 79 roughly west of Scarbrough Street.

That included traffic lights.

Power was also out in some residential areas but the lights stayed on in some areas north of Murray Avenue.

Brief small hail was reported, along with an inch of rain, and small limbs were down in many areas of town and some metal building damage was reported.
